Yeah, that seems more than just low. That seems very disappointing for the studio.

If those numbers are dead on I am very pleased and not just because Spiderman kept it's record but because maybe this sends a little message that we are tired of crap

Yeah, I want SM3 to come out on top and looks like it. But, that number for POTC3 seems more than HORRIBLE! I mean, seriously!

I don't think it's HORRIBLE, but it's not by any means great ... Especially when this movie is "supposed" to shatter every record.

SATURDAY MORNING UPDATE: 'Pirates' softer-than-expected!; P3 Friday only #10 all-time single day gross; 3-day of $105.5M, far behind 'SM3' and 'Shrek 3'; 'AWE' still headed for 4-day of $127.5M and 4 1/2-day of $144.5M

by Steve Mason

SATURDAY AM: “Aaaaaaaargh!” That’s probably what Disney execs are saying this morning. One of the three major May sequels was bound to disappoint, and it appears that it’ll be Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.

I made a round of calls to studio execs this morning, and my 3-day and 4-day estimates are unchanged (scroll down to read them in my Friday PM update). The consensus is that Pirates: At World's End will have a 3-day of approximately $105.5M (No. 7 all-time), a 4-day Memorial Day weekend of $127.5M (#1 all-time) and a 5-day of $144.5M. Shrek the Third will score an estimated $55M for the 3-day and a likely $70M for the 4-day, while Spider-Man 3 should grab $15.5M and $19M respectively.

$ 19 for Spider-Man 3 ? Not bad at all. $ 15.5 for 3 days would be about a 50 % drop. Once again, not bad. Would give it around 308 domestic.

No way this must be some kind of sick joke only 105M opening weekend :wow: ouch that's got to hurt .

I guess we'll just have to wait and see tomorrow what Box Office Mojo's estimates are.

Dude, if you still think 160-165 mil... prepare to be majorly dissappointed.:cwink:

I do expect the numbers to be higher than what was given- but DEFINITELY NOT that much higher dude. That ship has come and sailed its course off world's end.

But, I do think these numbers have to be a sick joke- I mean... wow. Disney will probably take out their swords in the office and start killing each other. Think the fight between the Pirate Lords- only with business execs. Actually, that would be hilarious to see! :woot:

One can only hope that they do indeed do that

I agree. Opening on over 11,000 screens, how can it only do 106 million in 3 days ? If that is indeed true, Disney will have to do a hell of a lot of damage control, and spin. You put 300 into a movie, and it does 145 on a 4 day holiday weekend, something is horribly wroung. 145 is nice for most movies, but has to be a major disapointment for Disney considering what 2 did. That's $ 13,181 per screen. I can't see why Disney would sandbag It's #'s unless they think It's April the 1st.

Wow! I wanted Spidey to keep his record but I didn't want Pirates to be this disappointing. I thought Shrek would be the odd one because it was sandwiched in. I wouldn't have guessed Pirates. Oh well, they all had better openings and probably will have better legs than Superman Returns.

It took SR 117 days to hit 200 million. :wow:

I second that.

Disney needs to make a REAL pirate movie. In my opinion, Muppet Treasure Island was more of a pirate movie than POTC.

Lol no one needs to make another pirate movie ever lol

Why are people going by that $105 million number? That guy pulled it out of his ass, there's no way he'd know how much it's going to make this weekend when he wrote that.

Can't believe how alot of you so called Spider-Man fans are showing compassion towards the Pirates disappointment. These are the same Pirates that humiliated our fellow hero buddy Superman, even though the movie was crap, Superman didn't deserve it.

Now its time for Spider-Man to humiliate Pirates.

With great power there must always come great responsibility.

Let's be proud that in Pirate's darkest hour we are not trolls humiliating them, rather we are letting them be. In other words, what does stuping down to their level prove? We should remain mature about this, that shows us to be the better man.

And that is the greatest challenge of all. Forgiveness.

SLYspyder Stan Lee would be proud of you....nough said :D:D:D:D

SPIDEY IS AN ICON THAT WILL LIVE FOREVER,NO ONE WILL REMEMBER JACK SPARROW 10 YEARS FROM NOW

SPIDEY RULES!!!!!!

No offense but I like the Pirates franchise. I want the movie to do good......just not better than Spidey. As far as it beating Supes....good! Singer should have stuck to the comics but instead bastardized Supes! He was no where near the "boy scout" he's suppose to be. A stalker, peeping tom, negligent dad, kind of user(he hit it and quit it, then erased her mind!)selfish cuase he left the world and didn't tell anyone, and this isn't including all the freakin plot holes!

I'm not one of the people showing compassion but I don't really mind what they did to superman never liked the character or his movies.

I think we should be more upset that the people showing compassion actually like the POTC franchise at all

Hey hold on, I think your missing the big point here, (On one hand were all excited and Happy Pirates got a badass beat .And didn't rob spidey again of his title)

But on the other hand for a movie that had so much hype & mind you was quite good(I saw in on Thursday night with my girlfriend , who's a huge JD fan) to make only $105 million is just earth Shattering .

Ok hold on a sec. Maybe the expectations are freaking us out and we are shouting doom and gloom.

Pirates just did like over a 105 million over a three day period. That is due in part to the early screenings on Thursday. Have you guys missed that. Add that in and you have like 54-55 million on opening day friday if they did not have those showings.

Additionally you have the memorial day thing, that is going to depress the sunday take.

So the soft weekend is expected. Heck the movie opened next to Shrek and shrek did 122m last week. Shrek is no SR.

With the 20 minutes more than spidey it probably had a few less showings.

So these numbers are about as good as you would get.

As I said in an earlier post (haahah I love it when I look smart) Pirates would do like 100m 3 day and Shrek would do 50 million as they would canabalize each other.

This is all really quite understandable.

Oh and they will still make good money but their legs will suffer because of all the other blockbusters opening.

Oh and yeah Fantastic Four, Transformers and Potter have a shot at a hundred million dollar opening.

This summer is going to be hot.

LMAOL! Dude, you didn't read it right- it's 105 million, not 10.5.:oldrazz::woot: 10.5 million would be a travesty. Lol. You would expect everyone talking about that. It would really be shocking and unintentionally hilarious. I think that would be an all time flop record, if I ever saw one.

It's gonna make more than $105 million over the 3-day weekend. The estimates aren't even out yet, so stop listening to that guy since he made up that number..

True while I am not surprised by Pirates performance given the competition I have to give the nod to Spidey for repaying Pirates for what it did to Superman Returns.

The buttkicking it put on SR was unconcionable.

It is only fair that we deal out justice for our fellow superhero.

I know it is probably immature but I feel satisfied, payback is a sweet, sweet deal it seems.

To all the DC fans we got your backs dudes, this one was for you. :woot:
