SM3 had mixed reviews but POTC3 had some pretty solid hate filled reviews and is actually rated lower on most sites.

don't get me wrong I really enjoyed SM3 but I think the francise is at a crossroads (quality rather BO numbers) if sam returns will he return to the formula of the first two (single villian) or will he continue with three villians because as is likely SM3 will make the most money of the trilogy.

lizard is a shoe in for SM4 I hope he is alone.

Do you mean most money WW or domestic? WW yes domestic it will be the least of the three.

Honestly I hope they don't do either I think 2 villians would work great for SM4

and I would say that SM3 really had 4 villians Venom, sandman, Harry, and to a much lesser extent Peter Parker

I meant worldwide.
I think sam is just better at fleshing out villians when they have more time. I think pushing the belltower and therefore vemom to the end of the movie would have given sandman (as I think harry was fleshed out enough) more screen time.

SM4 could have had pete taking down venom and lizard. anyway spidey is tearing up s*** at the box office so no harm down but I really would hate to see this francise on the slippy slope down, there are still some brilliant stories to tell.

in an ideal world I want conners and his whole family given plenty of screen time, i.e. you see the reason he takes the lizard serum, and it would be really great for his hand to grew back but no lizard change, family are really happy...and then when he is stressed later in the movie...

you wont be able to do that with more than a single villian.
I want SM3 to be remembered as the poor relation in brilliant franicse rather than the moment spider-man jumped the shark.

You can do that just fine with just two villians. As long as the second Villians is some huge fan favirote but moderately liked just underplay him a little. Maybe someone like camilian or Shocker. Some one to pose an extra challenge and add something extra but not be a huge distraction from the lizard. The Batman Franchise managed to do it just fine and will continue to (Excluding Batman & Robin.) So why can't Spiderman? The Joker is the biggest bad guy in Batman history and yet there will be more than just him in TDK same with Raas he is a big Villian but he wasn't alone in BB.

I liked SM3 but I wont be a hyprocrite and say I wasn't disappointed (on first viewing) love it noe btw. I just spidey to return to the silver age villians he so obviously loves.
I just hope the studio down put pressure on him for three villans again.

I agree I liked SM3 but in all honesty it had alot of flaws.

I hated the Dance Scene
Venom was way way way underused and just put together all wrong the only reason it could even be called venom was because he had the suit.
Eddie Brock and the symbiot should of been introduced in SM2 (In a very minor role) so more time could of been put on Sandman and Venom in SM3

I had a few other problems. There were alot of good moments to that saved it especially Harry's death and Peter hitting MJ those were just great moments in the movie.

I think everyone thought that. Even putting in Thursdays #'s it is not enough. You put 300 million into a movie, and opening on a holiday weekend, and with the performance of 2, and you only make mabey 150 ? Disney did not advertise as heavely as they did for 2. They probibly thought after the performance of 2, it would sell itself. Someone dropped the ball. Disney cannot be happy.

They're probably not thrilled right now but still POTC3 set a new Memorial Day record and the box office run is far from over.So a small bottle of champagne or rum will be opened at Disney on tuesday.

One big advantage Spidey had/has over the competition is that it was the first to be released in the summer plus it's got a guaranteed run at IMAX. When you look at the results you have to wonder why non of the studios pushed back the release of Shrek 3 and POTC3. Three heavyhitters in one month is just too much IMO as many foresaw.

Yeah, it´s like POTC3 is getting it back for damaging SR last year, it opened in the most competition-heavy spot of the market. And they should have tried harder to promote it, Sony promoted the hell outta SM3.
