Oh. The POTC3 news though, people acting as though it's disappointing and the end of the world... that kind of thing I find funny. Because that's still ALOT of money.

So, that's the enviroment we're in now? If it doesn't get earth shattering numbers it's a disappointment?

I want SM3 to get as most as possible. But, it's just odd to me that some news articles are stating 'underperforming' yet- in my eyes- these films are doing great albiet not earth shattering, but still...

Because the movie budgets have gotten out of control. A person can make an argument that a movie bombed or failed if it doesn't make 800 million WW because it didn't break even.

300 would have been a success even if it only made 100 million because the budget was so low.

I'm glad you brought up 300 because it's a perfect example of what I am talking about. For 300 to make as much as it did was just insane. Lets face it very few people on this earth can currently HONESTLY say that they thought it would make that much from the very start before it even opened. Most experts didn't even expect that much. It blew the world away with number in the very low 200M's we were not expecting that much from 300 it was a huge success very huge success and it didn't even make as much as SM3's Budget.

We demand more from movies like SM3 and POTC3 for legit reasons

1. Past performances in the franchise
2. Their budgets
3. The huge hype by the media
4. The hype from the fans you know the fans that scream POTC is going to shatter SM3 and then when it doesn't their like leave POTC alone it did great.

Alot of fans scream about how great a movie is going to do and when it doesn't do that good the pretend like the numbers it did were amazing. All we are doing is rubbing it in their face so maybe they don't act so stupid in the future.

NO the the world we live in is that it's a disappointment if it doesn't live up to everyones expectations. Which is the way the world has always been and should be.

I have not see one person say that they arn't good I have seen people say it is disappointing and it is because the entire industry had higher expectations.

And how many more sponsors SP3 has,they just had a 200 milion $ deal from Hasbro...

Anyway you look at it Spider-man is a staggering success....i dont know why are everyone so obssesed with the US box office which is clearly diminishing more and more and it has nothing to do with the quality of movies..

For example Sp1 sold around 70 million tickets and Sp2 sold 60 millions and Sp2 is the superior movie for almost everybody who has seen the movies.

The reason? The internet...i mean Pirates 3 is already out on torrents with a good picture quality THREE days after it's realise...

4-5 years ago that wasnt the case and if you wanted to a see a movie twice you were going to the cinema,now if you didnt like it very much you will just download it and that's it...and then comes the DVD's,there are a lot of people now that justb wait for the dvd to come out,they dont like the rush and for the same money of only one viewing in the cinema they have the movie on dvd for the whole family to watch it as much as they want.

That is why movies in the past had better legs,if you wanted to see them you had to go to the cinema,now the movies are on tv 3-4 months after they are released

Dude, someone put the whole SM3 on youtube three days after the release and nobody did a damned thing about and still don't- I mean seriously, what the fcking hell?!!!! I feel like finding whoever did that and fhseofeshikfhgo8fghiqge (you get the point, I don't want to sound truly psychotic- but those youtubers seriously have been PISSING ME OFF!!!! this whole summer), SONY and DISNEY should sue Youtube IMMEDIATELY.

Ok I mean I get way but I won't say it on the boards because most of you wouldn't admit to it anyway.

I do however agree that the Boxoffice is hurt by people using torrents and other various downloads. Alas I have a friend like that who downloads every movie he can think of. I will admit I download as well but I only download movies that I never planned to watch but will force my self to stare at for free. For instance I have been downloading movies that I never wanted to watch in 1997 if it were not for downloads I would have never have seen these movies. Hmm I guess thats a case against Downloads lol since the movies suck.

My buddy gave me a copy of Spider-Man 3 on DVD the day after release.

But I still went to the theatre and saw it again the following weekend...

Yea I admit I have been guilty on a few occasions of downloading a movie but I have rules for the way I do it.

1.Either I didn't want to and never planned to in the first place.
2. It was a limited release and wasn't going to play anywhere near me
3. If I liked It I have to buy the DVD
4. If I watched it in the theater and really liked it I will download it at home to watch it a few more times until the DVD comes out which I will buy. For instance I watched Batman Begins twice in theaters and then downloaded it so I could watch it over and over and when it came out on DVD I bought it.


Given the choice I would much rather watch a movie in the theater than at home. I love the big screen and the atmosphere. It has it's annoyances but ultimately I like it more

Since than only 1 album has sold 10 or more,Linkin Park-10 and it was in the charts for 2 years to do that

It was very common for an album to sell 800.000,900.000 coppies in the first week,now it's like 200.000,250.000 from the same artists that sold the 800.000 or more

It's the whole industry that suffers not just the movies

I would disagree I think it's still very accurate to say it didn't live up to the potential. It had potential to make more than it did even with the downloads.

I don't really keep up with album sales the way I keep up with boxoffice mostly because I can't find a site that supplies that info for free same with DVD's which pisses me off. Anyway I could be wrong but didn't Chris Daughtry make it past the 10M mark as well?

The youtube thing doesn't bother me that much I mean you would probably have to click 9 or 10 different videos just to get the entire movie it would be annoying and most people wouldn't really get it and probably would end up going to the theater anyway. Plus it's sony's own fault. The WWE gets a video removed in 10 seconds flat if they want Sony could do the same.
