I liked FF, but SR was more interesting and entertaining in my opinion. It was a better film in all areas. And I thought the official word was SR sequel in 2009 with filming next year after Singer finishes his WWII movie.

That wasn't an official word from the WB. That was propaganda from Singer's camp. Of course everyone from Singer's camp is going to communicate their intent to work on the sequel and release it by 09, but there has still not been an official word from the WB. We've heard lots of stuff from Singer's camp, but the WB hasn't said a word about a sequel officially.

Which is funny considering they had no problem officially announcing the Batman Begins sequel. In fact, Spiderman 3 just released and Sony has already officially announced there will be a spiderman 4.

IMO SR took risks, some people like it, some don't. FF was made just to sell toys. Just check RT to see which one people thinks is best. And I'm pretty sure FF2 will do even worse at the BO.

You're right. There was a lot of risk in utterly replicating Donner's work with the exception of enhanced visuals and a kid. I guess instead of developing an original and creative plot, Singer put all of his ideas into adding a kid to Donner's original work.

With all the gazillion of dollars they have made, of course they're gonna confirm a sequel as soon as possible, I would do the same. Of course I'm expecting a better story than SM3.

I think it was 2 weeks ago were there was a vide interview with Singer, Harris and Dougherty talking about the sequel and future villians. There's gonna be a sequel for SR wether you like it or not.

Well, it still ended up being a great film. It set the foundation for the next one and hopefully the next one will be an all out action adventure.

Oh no, there is going to be a sequel. I'm sure of that. But it won't be with Singer, whether you like it or not. And you're only confirming what I previously stated. Of course, Singer and his crew are going to continue to communicate their intent to work on the sequel (they have an interest in the project). We've heard lots from Singer and nothing from the WB. I don't know if you know this little bit of information..it might be a secret...but movie studios officially confirm sequels...not directors with an agenda.

I can't dispute your opinion. You enjoyed it, I didn't. But I don't know what foundation it set. Donner's original work set the exact same foundation. I don't see much variation in the two. At least in Donner's movie Superman threw one single punch. Superman (a comicbook superhero) didn't throw one single punch in the entire run of Superman Returns.

If the WB is smart they will continue with Singer, unless they want to go the Fox way of course.

I'm not sure there has been an OFFICIAL announcement for Spidey 4, certainly not to the extent where we know which year it is coming out.

SR was a lllloooooonnnnnnnnggggggg chickflick. I actually didn't realise how poorly it did until I read this thread.

You're right too!!!:whatever: I remember in the Donner film seeing, Richard white, Supes going to Krypton to find survivors, Lex stealing the crystals from the fortress, Lois hating Suprman, Supes being on a hospital, Lex having a boat, Supes lifting a Kryptonite mountain. Yep, everything was in the Donner movies, you have been of great help.:woot:

What is up with this horrible love fest with Rotten tomatoes. I can't believe that so many of you actually give a **** about that useless site.

Saying just ask anyone when it comes to opinions on a movie is kind of ******ed I mean how about you just ask your self what you thought.

That's because Batman Begins and Spiderman 3 both slaughtered their budget SR did not.

R: What stage is the next installment of "Superman" in?
Peters: Right now, Bryan Singer is working on the story, and hopefully, that will be a script by the end of the year. And hopefully, we'll be in preproduction by, say, January or February of next year. "Superman Returns" was an amazing effort. You're talking about a story that's been made before; you're talking about the fact that we had to re-explore his youth, his origin. And now, the second movie allows us to go do things that people haven't seen before. Bryan is the best director I've ever worked with. It's very easy to produce or be with someone who's a brilliant, brilliant person. I equate my relationship with Bryan to the relationship I had with Barbra Streisand. Barbra was so gifted that it was easy to be able to adjust a little bit here or there. With Bryan, it's the same thing. He's a great person, and it's amazing cause he's such a sweet guy. He's almost like one of my kids, in a way.

You were saying about the sequel? :o

Variety says Bryan Singer has signed on to do another Superman film in the summer of 2009 for Warner Bros.

There's no script or budget yet, the studio said.

"The sequel is apparently at the very beginning of the development process and, as with any other project, there are any number of factors that must be addressed before it is greenlit," the trade said.

"While Superman Returns wasn't the performer the studio had hoped for, it has earned more than $390 million worldwide and WB and Legendary say they will still turn a profit from the film."

"The two companies are sure to insist that the sequel's production budget comes in under $200 million," adds the trade.

Brandon Routh is optioned to return in the lead role.

This report confirms what IESB reported earlier last week.

I know I love SR 77% and hated FF 26%. Spidey fans used to talk about RT all the time, until SM3 61 % was rated much lower than the previous two. And IMO they're pretty accurate of what most people think about the movies. And I prefer SM2 93% over SM3, what a coincidence.

Well, do you think they feel smart placing millions of dollars in Singer's hand for him to produce a film that consequently didn't meet their expectations? I would feel smart if I gave a director a mega budget and complete creative control only for his product to under-perform at both the box office and in dvd sales (heavy sarcasm)

It's accurate of what you think and you are praising it what a coincidence. Just because some or even alot of spiderman fans love it doesn't mean I do.

OMG all spiderman fans think exactly the same

Sorry it doesn't work that way. You can search every post I have ever made and not once in my life have I said a good thing about RT hell I rarely reference critics. Every one has their own opinion and to be honest RT can hate and love anything they want but that doesn't mean the rest of the world agrees. It can't be all that accurate because it gives movies a 77 but there are people who think those movies deserve a 90. Accurate means right or very close to it.

we may not agree on RT. But that info above has been there for months. Is just that the SR haters are blind when we're talking about SR sequel news.

Again, you're only reporting what Brian Singer is communicating. We still have not heard an official word from the WB. It's been just about a year and we still haven't heard anything official from the studio overseeing the project?

Oh please, it's not like the movie bombed. It still turned a profit and revived the Superman franchise. Every film made is a financial risk no matter how you look at it, at least this one did good enough for a sequel. Bringing back Superman was never going to be easy and it was a gamble either way.

Right, because all of those elements are big risk! Lex having a boat is a major plot pusher! WOW! Singer really pushed the envelope! :whatever: That makes this so much different than Donner's original film!!!! :oldrazz:

How is that something that Singer is communicating? It's reported by Variety, is Singer somehow the owner of Variety?

Actually, it was reported in an article that the WB and its financial investor were both set to lose 20million a piece on box office alone. And that DVD sales might soften the blow. Where are you reading that SR made a profit?

Did you read it that time. It says SINGER HAS SIGNED ON it doesn't say he THINKS he will make the movie. At no point does it say that SINGER told them this.

Well, the above article stated that both Warner and Legendary were set to make a profit, but it seems your ignoring that article.
