I loved the first one (I have read the book), though I agree it did start off slow, it did not bother me as much.

I really wonder what There and Back again will deal with (other then the battle of five armies, considering the movie will probably be over 2 hours, a battle won't take that long)

Political bickering pre and post battle, most likely.

Looks better than AUJ. Stuff's happening! :D Did Beorn attack the company in the book?

I just read that this is the international trailer. When does the 2 and a half minute US trailer drop? That trailer did nothing for me so hopefully another one is coming out today.

Didn't do much for me. Very fake looking and oh joy Azog one of the worst villains ever is back. But love the colors and how bad ass Legolas is even though he shouldnt be there. The Smaug tease was alright but he also looks very fake. Obviously the cg will be much better by Dec. But The Hobbit had some really bad cg so I don't know how much better it'll be.

What i liked:

- The city of Dale shot
- Thranduill Halls looks amazing
- Butterfly scene :D
- Nice to see Legolas again
- Beorn!
- Smaug (although i hope they do some more extra work on it, the CGI doesn't look very top notch in the trailer)
What i have mixed feelings

- They're going to make a action scene in the barrel scene with elves and orcs trying to get the dwarves, it seems very "we need to have an action scene every 15/20 mins" rule, CGI elves on the tree branches didn't liked that also

- Still too much CGI/greenscreen, even in some exterior shots at daylight it looks it was shot on greenscreen  i don't think these movies sfx will age as well as the LOTR's sfx did

- I wanted to hear Cumberbatch's voice on Smaug :csad:

There is a shot where legolas is loading an arrow and about to shoot it into an orcs head you can tell the trees and bushes are set but the sky and what lies beyond is greenscreen. There is no blending point at all. I really don't like the way Jackson has framed these films. At times scenes look like they were designed for a stage play.

He needs to go back to his Fotr thinking where everything felt very real

Aside from a few minor gripes I have here and there (mostly consisting of obviously unfinished CG shots, but I'm sure those will be really polished by the time the film is released), that got me pretty hyped, even more so than the trailers for the first film.

Also,

OMGSMAUG!!!!! :wow::wow::wow:

I cannot wait for this to come out! :woot:

i will of course watch it and pay for the ticket. but it looks like a long movie based on the trailer. hahahah PJ you are crazy.

Looks great, beautiful landscapes, Smaug, while being in early stages, looks really cool. If you think this is 100 % finished CGI, you guys are fooling yourselves. It always looks better at the end.

I liked the trailer although there were some CGI bits that definitely need work. Can't wait to see & hear Smaug in all his glory.

Did you ever watch X3? Specifically the Colossus armour? :csad::woot::csad:

I don't think its finished but looking at The Hobbit. I don't think it'll be much better

Cinematography looks even flatter than in AUJ, the shoddy CG doesn't help either.

As a trailer it is quite uninspired too. Does very little for me.

We know it is unfinished cgi, but we told ourselves that for a year regarding AUJ and in the final film the bad cgi was still bad cgi. There was an abundance of bad cgi in that film so I'm not getting my hopes up that DOS will be much better in that department.

EDIT: that was supposed to say *unfinished cgi.
