I honestly thought Thorin was going to kill him at the end of the 1st film (with Bolg as a villain in the next two), and found it a bit anticlimactic when that did not happen.

Yeah I thought they were going to have an epic fight to finish the movie and was dissapointed at the time with the outcome. BUT in hindsight I understand why they had to have Bilbo save the day, its his journey afterall.

The Necromancer's fake name is "John Harrison"
I heard that it was Keith Jones. I thought that, in one of his really early letters, Tolkien wrote a very rough version of the rings' verses from LOTR;

One ring for Keith Jones,
On his dark throne.

Azog was originally a live on set actor in prosthetics and towards the end of production he was changes to CG.

So in this poster the Orc below Bolg is Azog before he was changed into a CG character. I personally would of preferred Azog to be not of been CG. :(

Regardless of the fact that Im fine with how Azog looked, I can not ****ing believe they replaced those awesome prosthetics with CGI. I was hoping that character was Bolg and that he would show up later in the story. So I guess they completely cut Bolg? What a load of BS. As time goes on I lose more and more confidence in this new trilogy. At this point Im reaching indifference. Just do whatever you want to do and on your own head be it.

Over-writing all that hard work and creativity from the costume designers/makeup artists with a CGI Masters of the Universe toy seems, frankly, philistine.

What a shame.

I actually greatly prefer the new version of Azog. The original version seems so boring and generic in design.

I think the movie suffers most from the beginning; the first half an hour or so was absolutely dreadful (I remember there was some pointless food war or something like this). But the rest was enjoyable, to the point where even the length didn't bother me at all.

How about a superhero movie that has the same storytelling style as The Hobbit?
Because of the grand scale, I can see it working for Hawkman, Wonder Woman and Aquaman.
Off-topic, but still....

I thought the effects work on Azog was solid, he just didn't have much to do in the movie.

I liked Azog's appearance, i think of the pproblems with the film was that it had too many villains: Necromancer, Azog, Troll king, smaug. All of them screamed "main villain"

He was rendered with less detail than a CG character that had more time given for completion. I assume he was a rush to last minute change. I'm also assuming in the next film he'll get the time and effort that is needed to make him more convincing (added detail).

I didn't have a problem with Azog's appearance.
Neither did I, I was just surprised how rubbery his skin looked and the scars on his face lacked detail, he looked like a rushed job.

We might see Bolg in the next movie, his absence in these films hasn't been ruled out yet. He's in the promotional material for movie one before the films were split into three movies. It's rumored that he'll be in movie two and he'll be in the battle of Dol Guldur as you can see in this promotional picture.

Here he is on the Dol Guldur set.

CGI Azog didn't replace the actor of Bolg. He replaced a different actor playing Azog.

I think if I was an actor who had to sit through hours and hours of prosthesis every day just to be replaced by CGI I'd be ticked. :funny:

I thought that was Bolg too, but CGHulk said that was in fact the original look of Azog before he was replaced by the CG. So im confused is that Bolg like we thought or is that Azog pre CGI? Or was Bolg in Part 1 originally and replaced with a CGI Azog when it became three films?

No he didn't say that. Read his post again. The orc BELOW Bolg on the poster was the original Azog.

So the original Azog is in the movie until the CG Azog throws him to the wargs. Good-bye original Azog. :funny:

So when the original Azog found the company sleeping at night the actor probably said his lines in in English and they changed the way he talks to orc speech saying, "Send word the the Master...we have found the dwarf scum." and added subtitles in English. They probably did that so that he no longer came across as Azog. This reminds me of the diner scene in Men in Black. Later on they changed the story, the dialogue in the diner scene had to be changed too. Instead of doing reshoots they just had the two characters dubbed over in an alien language and they added subtitles.

When the company is being chased through the fields it was originally Azog who was pursuing them.

I prefer the larger size of Azog, he looks more intimidating. Where as the original one looks like a scout. In the end they changed him to be.

Lmao all those makeup artist work fed to the warg. Gotta say, now that I know which one was actually the original Azog, I prefer the CGI model. There was nothing intimidating about the original and it would have been extremely odd for Azog the father to be so much smaller than his hulking psychotic looking son. It does suck for the makeup artists tho.

Well I spoke of Men in Black before so...Rick Baker made a big cockroach monster for the end of the film, but it didn't have the mobility they needed for the sequence. So it was replaced by a CG version. All that practical work was scrapped as well.

The orc beneath bolg ins't the original azog he is fimbul the hunter I'll look for pictures of the toys. Cgi Azog isn't even half as intimidating or baddass as lurtz was nor as intimidating as Bolg looks. But worst of all is that it doesn't make any sense that they made all the orcs real(guys in prosthetics) and their leader is cgi, plus he looks rushed. His skin looks way too perfect and smooth almost navi like.

He is fimbul

Man, that's too bad, I'd love to see what Baker came up with.

And honestly, I don't know why they didn't combine the puppetry and CGI instead of going all CGI. Practical/CGI mix always yeilds the best results in my opinion.
