I think we are lucky MGM is actually being dealt with. It's been holding the greenlight for over two years.

Yeah, this has been dragging out for too long. Was Jackson reluctant to direct these? It seems like I heard he had someone else in mind to direct.

Yeah and his name was Guillermo del Toro, and it would have been awesome. lol

Oh yeah, the guy who did Pan's Labyrinth. I agree, it would have been good (but probably rated NC-17).

Del Toro would have been amazing, but I think he has influenced the Hobbit extensively even though he's not directing. He is co-writing it with the LOTR team, and has designed many sets/creatures etc. You will definitely be seeing a little Del Toro when the movies come out. Which is a good thing. The guy is a visual genius.

NC-17.... do you even know what that means? The only thing now-a-days that will get that rating is a complete hardcore porno.

Surprised it took ComingSoon this long to post the McKellan comment, seeing as it was posted on TORn three days ago.

At this point, I'll believe it when I see it. We've been given great news too many times before only to have it withdrawn or contradicted. :csad:

Ian is like Michael Caine when it comes to what they really know about their projects: nada.

Don't be so quick to dismiss good news, this time. If you've been following the MGM situation, you'd realize that things are looking up for the company at the present moment. The owners of Spyglass are most likely to take the helm, with a proposed $500 million cash infusion to keep the studio going. The Hobbit would need such an infusion to get the gears moving forward. So, assuming all goes to plan, a January start doesn't seem so unrealistic at this point.

I don't blame you for reserving your doubts, though. This movie has seen enough obstacles to warrant such reactions at this point.

whait what?did you writte a post like Ian's comment is now different then the last 2450000 times?

will some here just start ignoring Ians ''news'' ? its over. its oveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer

MGM is working it self out in supposedly the next couple weeks. Meaning Hobbit should be green-lite soon. FINALLY!

your view is just as unsubstantiated as anything.

Why would it be NC-17?

I was thinking of some of the scenes in Pan's Labyrinth and how graphic they were.

NC-17 is a rating above R, but not X. I would assume it would cover violence, as well as sex. I'll admit I'm a little fuzzy as to what circumstances it is generally used under, so I'll back off from that stance, and say it would be rated R for Graphic Violence.

Why would Del Toro fill The Hobbit with graphic violence? It's an adventure fairy tale that needs to lead into the LOTR trilogy. Just because one of his fantasy films had R-level violence doesn't mean they all will. The Hellboy movies, which he also directed, contain action scenes but are kept at PG-13 level.

Scarface got NC-17 like in 1983 for violence/sex... but nowadays, that movie would have been low end R. R movies now a days can have as much violence as they want... period. And most can have a lot of nudity and sex as well... as long as it's not hardcore porn, there isn't any reason why a movie would get NC-17 now. Hobbit porno? lol... that would be scary... but what do you expect from a movie with mostly dwarfs?

Wasn't Pans Labryinth a children's tale at one point? If it was, I don't think it was as graphic as the movie was. I agree though, Hellboy was visually stunning, particularly the 2nd one. And no Hobbit pr0n plzkkthksbai!!!
