Well then. I think Mark Millar has acomplished something there.

We only gave them one day to respond after Heroshima. Back then, that was nowhere near enough time to respond to something like that.

Your enemy takes out an entire city with one super weapon.....warns you that he will do it again if you do not surrender and you need more than a day to make a phone call to Washington??? They had more than enough time. Funny they did it after Nagasaki.
What part of "they did not want to give up" don't you understand???

They didn't believe we had two such weapons.

We warned them.........

The dropping of the atomic bomb was an unheard of event. Nothing like that had ever happened before. If you were the president or king or prime minister or emporer or whatever of a country, and you got a report that an entire city had been destroyed by one bomb (at a time when such an ocorance would have been thought of as pure science fiction), what would your reaction be? Sheer disbelief. The Japanese government would have sent investigation teams to figure out exactly what happened. Was it really one bomb? Was it a full blown air strike? They would have surveyed the area, tested for readiation, interveiwed survivors, etc. That kind of thing takes days. We did not give them enough time to really take in what happened and respond.

I don't blame the U.S. for everything. We did promise to help them rebuild and we half assed it. Why should we hold a grudge for the Cuban missile crisis? It happened twenty years before the Berlin wall fell and was caused by a leader who had left office many years earlyer.

Russia was never a friend. They were a necessary evil to help beat a bigger threat in the Nazis. The U.S. knew that Stalin was not to be trusted. H e was stealing nuclear secrets from us while allied with us. And we're gonna give that dude money?? Are you kiddin me???

Stalin was the wortst of them. He killed 5000 Russians in one year to up the countries progress. He was definately the worst leader of the soviet union. All the others were fairy princesses compared to him.

But still oppressive. What do you call a country that will not let their people leave freely?? That has no free press? No religious freedom?? Secret police??? Come on dude!!! You would look pass all of this just to call the U.S. scumbags??

Also, I'm pretty sure most of the getting sent to Siberia if you spoke out againts the USSR was over long before the colaps of the soviet union. Hell, they were allowing American tourists ofr several years before the collaps.

Americans could always go over there. But, their people couldn't come over here...or even to westrn Europe. Why were people defecting when they got a chance and the courage to. Soviet atletes trying to use the olympics to get asylum. And this looooong after Stalin.

How am I insane?

Sigh......

Stalin wouldn't have "gobbled up" the other half of Germany. America and Russia had an agreement after world war two. America got west Germany and Russia got east Germany. America and Russia built the wall together to mark the border.

The agreement was struck only to prevent more conflict...not because they were friends!! Stalin's forces were moving in to take all of Germany. But Truman got the blockade going and the Marshall Plan. That's why we kept a military prescence there for years!! Deterence.....

Neither of you has produced one iota of information that anyone with half a brain and an ability to read hasn't heard before. I love poilitics, and I'm passionate about what I believe. But do you either of you think that you're convincing the other, or anybody else?

Ultimates.

Otherwise, get a room.

Stalin had been dead for over 30 years when the Societ Union fell. We really didn't have to worry about what he would do with the monwy.

No, I wouldn't look past all that to call the U.S. scumbags. In fact, I don't think I've ever called the U.S. scumbags. That being said, yes, there was opression. However, by the 80s (especially the late eighties when the union colapsed), it was far less opressive. The government was still sticking it's noses in the buisnesses, but it was nowhere near as vad as it was in the 50s and 60s.

Very true. Forgot about that part.

I never said that they were friends. And actually, we kept a military presence there for years to help people across when they tried to get out of the USSR, not to keep Russia from taking the rest of Germany.

Sorry. Political topics are bound to come up in some way or another on this thread, and when he sites his opinions on them, it's just hard not to ignore him. I'll try to, though.

So, back to the question of how they're going to get out of this one. I think that Tony is going to free Cap and Thor (and the two of them are going to have a talk and apologize to one another), and they'll stop the main team and try to organize the troops to stop the invading army.

It was for both reasons. We have missles pointed in their direction.

I agree. Tony will be the one getting everything back on track.

Yeah. I mean, he's the only one with any real oportunity. What I'm thinking is that, since Tony is more or less just a scientist, the invaders would underestimate him somewhat. Then, when he's alone with Natasha he uses some micro invention to get out of there.

That or he could just smash her over the head with the empty champaigne bottle lying next to him....just a thought

It'd be fun if he did that and then looked down at her and said, "I'm the world's greatest weapons maker and I'm reduced to clubbing her in the head. I'm so not living up to my potential."

damn good issue, and we still got Red Skull and Ultron coming(if he hasnt already) swwweeeetttt.

Either that or Thor is gonna kick Cap in the nuts over and over again for a solid half hour. ;)

it would be cool to see the big three come together and kick ass again. I just love this cause for so long people have been saying "when will the Ultimates fight villians and not themselves" and with one issue, Miller brings the villians in spade.

On a side note: In an upcoming issue of Ultimate Fantastic Four, Reed Richards will try to change the past using his time machine, but he'll screw up somehow and Thor will end up being President of the United States! :D

Actually, the guy everybody is referring to as Red Guardian is who I see as Red Skull; the way the helmet is designed gives ME that impression.

This issue reminds me too much of the Gamoran Supersoldiers and the secret Stormwatch unit from the past (that were modeled after the JLA) that Apollo and Midnighter belonged to initially in the Authority comics.:(

It'll be interesting to see how this develops, though. I noticed that Wasp says that she doesn't feel too good just before the attacks hits (I know they were talking about the Hawkeye thing, still...), I don't know if this is coincidence or if she's involved with it. I also noticed the Champagne bottle other posters have referred to; if Natasha gets hit, those must be some pretty crappy implants. Although, if when she mentions that her implants "itched" that day it could be that Tony did something to them. How ironic would it be that she would be trapped in her own body due to the implants and that Tony is the one controlling them.

I thought the implants she was talking about were silicone boobs. Not preformance enhancers. She really has preformance inhancing implants?

the positives and negatives of the new issue of ultimates

positives-they finally starting being realistic with the size of female super heros breasts, her admitting she had implants was a relief because i was tired of them having huge unexplainable ****,there are good genes and lucky girls in this world("my girl friend" says the comic geek) but not that many.Having sw use her powers like that was cool to and I liked seeing abom get an ultimate version but not because it works story wise, only because im a hulk fan and in any other case i would list it as negative seeing as there are many more hulk villains that would have been better more realistic ultimate characters.listing the ultimate xmen and ff in this was great to but i wonder how that will play out in the other books and if the FF will step it up a notch, also will namor come to aid?

negatives-everything else,I hated it,its now the marvel universe.I missed the issue before this one but i doubt it would make a major difference.my god,why is it they have created a team of baddies like this? couldent they have waited until gal lak tus was gone(or whatever happens with all that mess) and why wont they explain how those british super suits work? I hated them showing up and hoped they would be gone but no,hundreds of them now fly the skys.I better get a good explanation of what was so secret that only the ultimates knew to and why it had to be so grim to get all that information, they could have stole a suit off a dead reserve of killed another country captians.a rocket man could have been shot down and so on.I wanna know why they need the widow at all.I also would like to know why the ultimates are so ill prepared to,I guess its kind of obvious in some ways, they were built to protect and take out world threats, this new team of baddies was built to take out that kind of security force but still they needed to do something.were the ultimates told every single thing about the whole operation? I hope not since it would be all the more easy to take it down fom the inside out.Whats with that demon looking girl? who is that and why is it that this roman empire felt the need to have an evil version of everyone? realistically they would only need a bunch of abominations,im hoping this is explained as well.

It's not her breasts, GOD!!!!!!! She has implants in her body to help her do all the crazy $h!+ she does, she says so in Vol. 1. They also used her as a "dummy" in Ultimate War when they're showing someone a town that they've prepared in case the President is ever at risk and they have to safeguard him somewhere. As soon as she takes her gun out all the pople take guns out and mechanical stuff come out of fire hydrants and mail boxes and shoot her down. Nick Fury (I think it was Nick) then says not to worry because she'll be up an about in a few moments thanks to the billion dollar implants she has.

1) They neede Natasha to be secretive about it. They didn't want to call atention to themselves, so they had a spy in the Ultimates to leak information to them.

2) The Ultimates were unable to stop this thing because A: they probably didn't expect a massive invasion force to take America like what happened here, and B: Cap and Thor were incarcerated, Iron Man was kept out of the fight, and the rest were just overpowerwed.

3) The invaders had their own version of the main team to take care pf The Ultimates in case something happened (like Thor and Cap escaping, for example).

4) What "Roman Empire"? One of the members of the invading team called America "the new Roman empire" but that was the only mention.

Sorry. I never noticed the mention in volume one and I forgot about the mention in Ultimate War.
