DEFIANCE, OHIO -- Defiance County Judge Joseph Schmenk handed down the highest sentence possible in the case of Judith Hawkey, life without the possibility or parole.

In 2003, Hawkey's step-son, Corey Breninger shot and killed his father Robert Breninger. At the time, it was ruled an accident.

The son revealed years later to a teacher after Hawkey had collected hundreds of thousands in life insurance from Robert. He said Hawkey had manipulated him to pull the trigger, and then lie about what happened.

Corey, now 20, addressed Hawkey in court.

It only took 10 years!

I kept reading the last name as "Hawkeye".

So did the son get prison time? He did kill someone.

I think it depends on the circumstances. He was 10 years old at the time and his mother-in-law somehow manipulated him into it. Without knowing the way she did it, it's hard to say. She was an authority figure and she used his juvenile status as a tool to commit murder so I doubt he will be charged.

Yikes. I can't begin to imagine what it must've been like for him to have killed his own father, then live with the guilt for ten years. It probably took him years to figure out it was really his step-mother's fault it happened. His teenage years must've been a living hell.
