Thanks! I wish we had a director I could get more excited about, but I’m remaining optimistic and I can’t wait until we start getting some casting, set-photos etc.
... and yeah, as I’ve seen a few people ask, where is our FF forum?
If you had a choice between: Taika W, James G and Watts, who would you take?
Personally, I would want other options, but between those three, I’d take Watts. My biggest fear is a “goofy” FF, and I’d be afraid JG or TW would try to turn it into a comedy.
I’ve been doing a lot of rationalizing from last night into this morning. Watts isn’t my first choice... or my third choice... or my tenth choice, but I trust Marvel and Feige.
Marvel could have literally had any director they wanted and they know Watts and they chose Watts.
I’m sure they interviewed many potential directors, some of whom we likely would have been much more excited about than Watts, but he got the job.
What did he say or do to convince them he was right? Did he say things that convinced them he really “got it”? I hope and suspect so.
I’m going to try to sit back and see what happens with an open mind.
I’m willing to admit I was literally excited by Trank’s talent right up until the moment we heard Miles Teller was going to play Reed and it got ugly from there.
I’m hoping Watts will go the opposite way. As we learn more about his vision for the FF, we’ll get more solidly behind him.
Like I say, Feige has looked him in the eye and heard his take on the FF, but we haven’t, so I’ll trust Feige saw something that will excite us when we know more.
Heck to the no.John Krasinski and Emily Blunt.
Agreed, Gunn would have been great!I think James Gunn would be great. He has kind of toyed with some FF esque themes with his GotG movies, but would that maybe be too similar for him? Taika I like sticking with Thor.
Watts is not my pick either. Would I have loved someone like an Adam McKay or someone like that? Boy howdy yes. But Watts is much better than say Peyton Reed, IMO
I've found that Marvel's best films are the ones that have the directors' DNA in them. Both Guardians of the Galaxy films are distinctly James Gunn. Ragnarok is distinctly Taika Waititi. Even Black Panther is distinctly Ryan Coogler.
Just get Doctor Doom right. He should be one of THE premier villains in the MCU. Don't get cute and **** it up.

If Joss Whedon wasnt such a controversy magnet, I really feel like he would’ve nailed the FF. His style of writing is the exact formula that Marvel’s First Family needs.
As much as I’m repulsed by Gunn, he would’ve been a good choice too.
And I’m in the group that doesn’t want the FF race-bent just for the sake of it. Have them be their original selves and make the world around them diverse, I say.
On the topic of the FF's race, I don't much care. Get the best actors for the job. I was only really bothered by MBJ and Kate Mara in the last movie being adopted siblings. It felt like a change for no reason, and guess what....didn't make a lick of difference in the movie. So it was a change for no reason. Imagine that.

Kang is possible, but the fact that he's making his MCU debut as the primary antagonist of an Ant-Man film makes me think he's not going to be THE major player of this arc. And yes, I know this is throwing mass shade at Ant-Man.There doesn't seem to be an overarching plot or villain that ties everything together so far, I'm guessing they are saving the big threat for later on... maybe Galactus or Dr Doom could fit?
I'm actually glad they're treating everything as separate units until the next big Avengers team up.

He needs to be Infinity War Thanos-level great. Maybe even moreso. If they butcher Doctor Doom, it is a Cardinal sin I agree. There are villains you can mess up and I don't much care. Malekith and such. But Doctor Doom is comics royalty. He cannot just be good. He needs to stand out and be special. Anything less than that is unforgivable. Same applies to Magneto or Galactus IMO
I don’t think there is going to be a Thanos in the future who is at the center of everything. I think the MCU is so big that it will be broken down into mini archs which will have a big bad here, like a Kang or Memphis to or whatever. On this other corner, Doom or Annihulus, etc. I don't think we are getting another grand Endgame anytime soon. Maybe Secret War, but even there I would imagine it is built in mainly one area and barely mentioned in others.
It very well could be, yes. It's getting way too big that's true. But still I imagine they want to culminate in another "big event" movie at some point.
