I think they were brought in because of their powers and they may help the plot at some point. Characters like Avalanche wernt used because you can imagine a final battle with a big earthquake...there wouldnt be a need for one, everyone would be falling over and Alcatraz would be demolished and that would be it.

They can also be introduced and not be fully developed. If they brought in Cannonball or Gambit they would have had to been developed because they are quite important characters. Same with Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. There isnt enough time to develop each character and give them the screentime they deserve so they introduce fairly unknown characters with cool powers.

I agree completely

you can't have a war without people to fight in it right? they are most likely bringing in all the new people so they can make it seem like a REALLY big war. At least that's what i think.

Actually, I can think of how you could introduce Havok, and not have him as just some random Brotherhood character...

You are quite right.

There's no harm in people debating who should in or out, and wondering why certain people weren't in or out... but there were obviously good reasons for their decisions.

Quill and Arclight wouldn't be top of my list for X3 characters, certainly not for main Brotherhood members right alongside Magneto... but your reasoning makes sense.

This movie is about several major sets of relationships - Rogue/Iceman/Kitty; Jean's relationships with Cyclops/Xavier/Wolverine; Angel and his father. And also the interactions between Beast and the president and Magneto and Mystique. There just isn't any room to have any more interpersonal conflicts and revelations and deep characterisations going on.

In the next movie I want Storm to find a relationship! Maybe they could introduce Black Panther, or Forge. Terrorists could steal technology from Panther's super-advanced Wakandan city to make some kind of weapon. Or we could get Bishop (with nightmares of the Days of Future Past) and Storm could get involved with him...

They have cool powers, I agree. Quill has an interesting mutation and could impress a lot of people with his power visually. It certainly interested me when I saw him popping his quills in the trailer. And Arclight is like another version of Avalanche, but different. Avalanche will require a lot of money, both visually and physically. It's all about the money.

I agree with Electrix here. If they introduce the characters you want to be in the movie, they'll have to be developed and there's no time for that. People are already complaining about too many storylines enough as it is. This is an all-out war and possibly, the last movie (which I doubt). Of course, we will see all these mutants use their powers aggressively and visually.

Isn't Quill supposed to betray Magneto in the end? Or was that just some false news? Damn, Gambit could've replaced Quill. :down

Anyway, Callisto is definitely not useless. Storm versus Callisto, anyone? Callisto, possibly leading the Morlocks?

why does Rogue look like a man in your avatar, Lex?

I was really hoping that the guy playing quill was supposed to be sunfire, but thats just me.

Anywho i dont really get the argument of not having the space in the movie to delve into gambits charecter, they dont have to go that deep this time around, im sure there not going to get all up in psylockes bussiness, or even mention her brothers, hell, i dont even think they made her british. And they have never once mentioned storm being from africa! You dont have to go deep into the charecter for a good performance to come about, you just have to write some cool stuff for them to do really. But yeah i guess this is just what everyone else is getting at, i just wanted to say my piece.

But I liked the bright-red lips. :(:D

The last thing X-Men needs is Black Panther marching into take away Storm in the movies too. :o.

many of us were wondering while pathetic useless characters like arclight and quill and callisto seem to be getting the chance to appear in an xfilm while more deserving characters like polaris or havok have you to make appearance, well the answer is simple....there cannon fodder.

THINK ABOUT IT! this is suppose to be an all out war and what are wars without some casualities? so i believe useless characters that have brought into the x-men film like arclight were only brought in because they knew they would be able to kill them and no other future x=man writer would want to use them.

i think that is a reason the Morlocks are going to be introduced, to kill a tone of useless mutants
