The panel (comprised of average G4 viewers) was asked about their opinion of the viral marketing campaign for The Dark Knight and Heath Ledger as the Joker.

It's not looking good...they tore him apart. They were pretty unanimous about disliking Heath Ledger and said that while the viral marketing campaign was a good idea, Ledger was heavily criticized about "him not knowing anything about comics" and for some of his less than appealing roles in the past.

Am I wrong here, but with the negative response we're experiencing from several fans on these boards combined now with negative response from the media...are we experiencing a backlash?

Here are some quotes while it's fresh on my mind

"Ehhh...Brokeback Batman? I dunno. I like the picture, but to me Jack Nicholson is the only Joker."

"A Knight's Tale"...do I have to say anything else?"

"The thing that concerns me most is that in his first interview, Ledger was asked if he was a fan of comics and he said he wasn't and never picked one up in his life. When asked what he knew about the movie, he said "I think it's partially based off "The Killing Joke," which I THINK is about how the Joker begins." You THINK? I don't buy it."

The third quote is the only one I respect, because it's actually a fair concern.

The other two just ooze ignorance.

To the average moviegoing Joe-Public, Jack Nicholson IS The Joker.

THAT'S the hurdle Heath Ledger is really going to have to overcome. Not whether or not his mouth is scarred...

Let us know when this is YouTube'd or something.

Attack of the Show attacks a lot of things. I wouldn't take them seriously at all. Alot of the people who talk on the panel are idiots sometimes, too.

The first quote is what the initial reaction was when Ledger was cast. That's nonetheless ignorant.

most of those are just stupid comments. christian bale was in velvet goldmine and metroland, but nobody made jokes about those when he was cast as bruce wayne, this whole Brokebat Mountain stuff is just stupid.

When was this "first interview" that the third comment mentions? If it was, say, back when Heath was actually cast, or just after, then there's no reason to worry. After all, there exists such a thing as learning, and there was plenty of time before the casting and the beginning of the shooting for any of such problems to be resolved.

The fact that they were making Brokeback Mountain jokes and suggesting that Nicholson is the definitive embodiment of The Joker really discredits their opinions...

Also, I don't see how this G4 viewer thing translates into the generalization of "negative response from the media."

people are still making brokeback batman jokes?? :whatever:

Cuz the normal people of the world are like 6 months behind every fanboy. Give them a little while, they'll catch up.

Well, seeing as television is a form of media, I'd say this qualifies as a negative response from the media.

And a lot of their representatives weren't "experts" or anything...just average filmgoers and not fanboys.

Regardless of the roles he chooses, he's a very good actor. And I doubt the first person to make a comment even saw Brokeback Mountain, which is a great movie, nonetheless.

Not from the media when it's angry fanboys who know nothing about the film on the LOOP.

Who cares! Most of these geeks will be watching the film next summer.....MULTIPLE times....I guarantee it!

aside from the 3rd criticism, these guys sound like *****ebags

They weren't even critics or writers. They were viewers talking. Viewers. Wtf?

i HATE that show so much, they're annoying, and hardly ever right about anything, and besides, those two hosts are TOOLS.

To the average moviegoing Joe-Public, Jack Nicholson IS The Joker.

And for that im so glad...after the unfair bashing Nicholson will get when TDK comes out, it'll be refreshing to see that most of the free world will still believe jacks is better, in all likelyhood

sounds like more of an attack on Ledger than on the Joker look. and who really cares if an actor read the comic books and knows every bit of trivia inside and out before he got the role? big freaking deal.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I wonder how you guys tone would be if these guys were praising Heath as the Joker instead of bashing him.

What really bugs the hell out of me is the sheer ignorance of these morons.

They act like Heath Ledger is the only actor to play a gay character and to take roles in mediocre movies.

Christian Bale, the main ****ing character, played a gay character during his career. This franchise has been "Brokeback Batman" long before Ledger was signed. Not to mention that he's been in his fair share of lackluster movies too. Many great actors have.

I'm just so sick of people giving Ledger crap for this kind of ****. Do some ****ing research you ignorant bastards.
