Gentlemen, I'm ready to call it. Countdown is now, officially, awesomely bad.

He looks more like a lion or a baboon.

OOOOOOOOOOH. Dude, I am so much more OK with Countdown right now than I was five minutes ago. (EDIT: Actually, this does a lot to make it all feel OK to me, but I still need a Kirby-OMAC tie-in. Where is the Kirby OMAC? He's supposed to be a part of the Kamandi Earth. In fact, I think he's supposed to be Kamandi's grandfather, if I remember my Kamandi correctly.)

By the way, how awesome is Batman? In a world of beast-men, Batman's still kicking ass. Also nice to see J'onn wearing the right clothes.

By "right clothes" you mean "almost nothing at all," of course. The mini-series that spawned his new costume may have sucked, but J'onn's old costume was pretty lame. I much prefer the new one. I just wish they'd get rid of the Skrull chin.

Isn't J'onn technically naked anyway, seeing as how he transforms into his "costume"?

Can anyone please explain to me why, five issues before the end, we're following the personal exploits of some new guy who we can't be arsed to remember the name of instead of, oh I dunno, our actual protagonists?

And the Great Disaster is furries. Truly great. They've totally been hinting up to this revelation throughout the year, y'know, with all the furry jokes they've been making. Truly.

Ah, Countdown.

I mean apparently it has to do with Kamandi or the original OMAC or whatever obscure Kirby reference gets thrown into the mixer bowl this week ('Cause they planned all this! Really!), but I just can't imagine why we're supposed to care, this isn't even the actual New Earth! And for anyone who's not ridiculously versed in Kirbyology, for all appearances this Great Disaster that's been hyped for the past year is boiling down to a case of the airborne Furry rabies.

REPEAT

:wow::pal:

And this is the way the world ends, not with a bang but a whimper. Una is eaten by rats.

I think it's the best issue of the series. Just on its own, without any of the rest of it as context, this issue is the best.

Why? Well, for one thing, they got an artist who can draw comics. Amazing how much difference (even a clearly half-assed effort by) Jim Starlin can make on this book. And you know, I was actually happier to be following Buddy Blank than the protagonists. The protagonists have been the problem with the book. They absolutely canNOT say a kind word about Jason, even though he's maybe the only one of them with anything approximating heroism in this series. Kyle acts like a first-rate toolbox. The Legionnaires are preboot and shouldn't be here. Donna is not herself. I mean, I could go on, but it's nice to follow a character I don't feel guilty for sympathizing with.

Didn't read it, but just from the scans I saw, Countdown 5 appeared to work on a personal level. Despite, amazingly, the sweet and utter insanity surrounding the Kamandi story.

stupid. waste of 2 issues. no consequence to current DCU.

No no see it's very important. A main character got eaten by rats!! HOW MUCH MORE IMPORTANT DO YOU WANT IT TO BE?

I haven't been reading Countdown at all, but I think that I'll buy this issue just for that.

Well, you just saw all that there was to see of it, in Sakuraba's post up there:p.

No, when BB and Kamandi fly away, you see a swarm of rats and all thats left of Una is her leg.

Are they just trying to one-up themselves on gross deaths now?

"That one kid was eaten by a talking alligator in 52. Where can we go after that in Countdown?"
"Uh... have someone get eaten by rats?"
"Go."

I think you've already put more thought into Countdown with those three lines than the actual team has put into it for the past year.

Alligators like in temple of doom.
Rats like in last crusade.
Looks like Trinity will have Asps. Very dangerous.
