What about this... Y'know that Mephisto said that a part of Peter and MJ will always know in their souls that they were meant to be together and that Mephisto would love that suffering? or something like that... What about if that "little part of their souls" is just a metaphor to the fans that loved the Parker-Watson union and loved them as if they were family... what if Mephisto is "feeding of the pain and anguish of the thousands of sould that know the truth behind Peter and MJ, throughout other continuities?" If that was the trick behind this Devil deal with nothing in return... it would be a stroke of genius... discuss...

It wasn't a stroke of genius...

end of discussion.

yeah... I should've gone with lucky coincidence... I'm just trying to figure out how the Hell dealing with the devil is better than a divorce?

Yeh....i dunno...divorce is an ugly enough thing...and MArvel took it to the ultimate UGLY LEVEL....dealing with the devil...:whatever: .....geniuos.

So the little part are the fans that suffers, Joe Q and the rest of Marvel is Mephisto feeding on the pain of fans...

What a waste of time...why did Joe have to include in the story that a little part of PEte will always remember the marriage?? He should have left that out. (well, he shoulda left out his entire OMD story, but...)

I mean, are we REALLY gonna see Pete acting confused with deja vu for a second whenever he kisses someone now??

They have NO intent to have PEte remember he is married while he is moping for a date and when he finally gets one.

I just joined the site, and reading every page would take Soooo long, so sorry if this has been said:

Does the total randomness of the Mephisto deal bother anyone?

if he can come and FORCE any Superhero to make such a decision...Why wouldn't he?

You have no idea.

YES! We're the part that suffers, but I was thinking that Mephisto himself was enjoying OUR suffering...

I was just watching Fox business news on TV and they had Stan Lee on as a guest. The media is calling it a divorce for Spider-Man. Stan didn't correct them and I wouldn't have either. It's just too stupid to explain to the general public. So much for avoiding the bad media buzz surrounding a divorce.

I re-read "Kraven's Last Hunt" just for kicks. Read that classic and tell me how the story still "works" with a nullified marriage? Like in many tales, it's an integral part of the story and motivation. That's the first Spider-Man TPB I've read since this bizarre move. Sad to say, it effected the enjoyment of re-reading the book if even in only a small way.

Yeh, while re-reading old stuff, I have to try and pretend none of the current stuff is happening, or it taints my mind negatively as i re-read older stuff. Because it's hard to NOT think in the back of your mind that the stuff you're reading cvouldn't have happened this way now.

And it's hard to stop thinking what a total loser they've currently made Pete too.

And too see how much he loved MJ, andher him, and how poorly out of character it is for either of them to make a deal with the devil and magically flush their marriage and future and past down the drain.

haha..and yeh, if I was Stan, I would not want to correct ANY interviewer on tv and say..."well, actually, they DIDN"T get divorced,...they actually made a deal with SATAN and changed reality and mindwiped a planet, and in return Satan made an old lady live longer!"

Golly gee whiz the truth would sound just so brilliant!

Stan didn't correct them because he doesn't read the comics (hasn't for years and years) and probably doesn't even know. In fact, after the show, he probably asked the host, "Spider-Man is divorced?"

And what media buzz? I've yet to have a co-worker/family member ask me why Spider-Man is divorced. There is no buzz, negative or otherwise, as much as the toilet-paper deprived set would have you think.

And here's Stan opinion which was curiously left out of this discussion:

Stan Lee on CNN said:
But what of the man who created Spider-Man? What does he think?

"I think it's a very creative idea. It should stimulate a lot of interest in the characters and the books, and I'm eager to see what happens next," said Stan Lee, who wasn't involved in the current story.

uhhhh... has Stan EVER said a Spider-Man story/idea was bad while it was happening? WEDDING? GREAT IDEA!! CLONE SAGA? WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT?!? RELAUNCH AND CHAPTER ONE? WHAT A FRESH TAKE!!

I mean geez... yeah, it's Stan, but he is the very definition of a yes-man.

Stans response doesn't even read like a compliment. Think about it. What is a typical response to a child, when they give you a crappy peice of art work? Or you want to be nice to someone without critisizing them?

"Yeah, uh, that's very creative...and interesting Johnny"

Dude, he's the face of Marvel. It would be a very stupid business decision to publically act like a fan boy.

Besides, he's said it tons of times before that at 1st when others took over his books he hated all the changes that people made, but as time went along he rea;ised that things have to change for whatever reason and he can't take it so personally and be TOO critical.

And he's seen decade of this kinda stuff now, he probably doesn't get surprised by anything anymore.

Saying all that though, my only (gripe?)/observation with Stan is that he's overly complimental. Lots of times when it's clear he hasn't seen/read someones work, he'll still talk about how great they are.

He's Stan the Man! He tries his best to make everyone smile :)

lol, now they've roped Stan Lee into this madness. While I don't deny some of the new characters are interesting (like Mr. N) I still don't see how this couldn't have been incorporated into the 616 universe without all the other nonsense.

So, are Peter and MJ about to have One More Day in the newspaper strip too? Is Mephisto in the current storyline???

You do know that from a buisines persective Stan has no real connection to Marvel anymore????

But I guess if he pisses Marvel off he wont be allowed those 10 sec spots in the Marvel movies:whatever:

I think it's a very good thing that Stan said it was good when it was really bad so that he wouldn't hurt their feelings. Also, even if Stan thinks it was a good idea, he is entitled to his own opinion.

Stan has a lot of respect for Spider-Man (I expect more than for Marvel :woot:) and he won't put down any Spidey story unless it's something totally bad--the example of "Spidey becomes a rapist" comes to mind that was given a few years ago in that Wizard interview.

As far as his support of the marriage goes, I'll just say that he married them in the comic strip, performed the ceremony in NY, and I haven't seen any sign that they're getting divorced or otherwise breaking up in the strip. If that ever changes, then I guess we'll know for certain that Stan has fully changed his mind.

I wonder what May would think if (or when) she finds out that she owes her life to the devil?

LOL! That would be awesome.
This comment made me laugh.
