A young gymnast has ended her college career in agony after dislocating both legs during a floor routine for Auburn University.

Samantha Cerio was competing for Auburn when the horror injury occurred during an NCAA regional event in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Attempting a handspring double front flip with a blind landing, Cerio landed at an awkward angle and her legs buckled backwards.

She collapsed to the floor and the crowd was stunned into silence as the visibly distraught gymnast grabbed her knees in agony.

She was attended to by paramedics, before being removed from the floor by a stretcher after a long delay.

The extent of Cerio's injury has not been confirmed yet, but it is suspected she broke both her legs as well as dislocating both knees.

In a post on Instagram, Cerio announced her retirement following the awful injury.

That is really, really difficult to watch especially with her knees buckling like that.. I don't know why I watched it to be honest.

I've seen a lot of sporting injuries but the one that I can always recall is David Busst's horrific leg break after a collision with Denis Irwin & Brian McClair in a game between Manchester United & Coventry City in 1995(?). I'll not post footage or pictures, but if you want to see how bad it was just search his name & look at the images that pop up.

I think that one sticks out because I would have been 7 or 8 years old & it was probably the first leg break I'd ever been aware off in football.. not only that but even to this day it's still one of the worst. It was so bad a break & combined with some complications repairing the damage, he was close to having his leg amputated. He never played professionally again.

IveI only seen **** like that in movies or TV or just the aftermath. We are truly fragile as ****, but we get by.

Owwwwww. That poor girl. I've read about gymnastics injuries and how prevalent they are in the States and how it's the most dangerous sport for girls to get into.

That looks extremely painful and awful. It looks like her legs bent backwards on themselves at the knees.

I am constantly aware of how dangerous some sports can be, especially ones related to gymnastics. It's so easy to land wrong and for your knees or something to buckle. I've had a few sporting injuries myself. And the thing about gymnastics is that with some of these classes, you have to sign some kind of waver to say that the ones teaching the classes can't be held responsible.

And yet, other gymnasts can't constantly be in fear of something like that happening. If they were to be, they would become very hesitant and would second guess every move, and then it would make them overly cautious and could result in an injury anyway. But she was obviously going for it full on, and it still happened.

im not even sure i want to see that yet. i still haven't watched the video.

the worst ones ive seen in recent memory were basketball. Gordon Hayward's leg break from last season, i remember a NCAA player breaking their leg, possibly through the skin and recently Josef Nurkic's leg break for the portland trailblazers. thank goodness he had on compression pants, because that might be the only thing that kept it all together

Have just seen that video, and I hope she'll stay strong enough to ope with that

Another one surfaced today from a women's weight lifting competition.

Was just about to mention that female weightlifter.

Sport is full of these incidents:

Anyone see the Sid Justice leg break from WWF?
There's a video of two muay thai kick-boxers who kick at the same time & clash legs - one breaks his leg below the knee.
I remember a Swedish arm wrestler breaking his arm during the worlds strongest man.
Far too many football (soccer) incidents to list - as above, David Busst, Luc Nilis, Djibril Cisse (on each leg), Aaron Ramsey, Alan Smith.

This is why I avoid all forms of physical exercise!! Haha.

This one by any chance lol?

I literally have never stepped foot back in a Muay Thai gym since watching Anderson's leg break. I've had some micro fractures myself, welts and a couple really bad bruises that messed up nerves in my leg for a few weeks. As soon as I seen this I can actually remember saying "Well never doing that again"

I was waiting for someone to bring up Silva, that is a truly sickening break.

Real sympathy for that poor gymnast, those breaks look unimaginably painful -IMO worse than Silva's.

That poor girl. I hope her legs get better. :csad: This is why it terrifies me to try to do acrobatics or gymnastics.

Boy, do I ever. That dangle leg was ugly.

i remember seeing eddie george dislocate his elbow in a NFL game and all i remember thinking is, an arm isn't supposed to bend that way.

i dont even want to look to see if there's a video lol
