What is yours? Or maybe, more specifically, what do you think your purpose is? I'm not talking about ambition or what we want from life, none of that, but your feelings on where you are right now and what that means to you.

When you wake up in the morning, what goes through your head? When you've finished work or come home from an activity or social event and crash in front of the television, gaming console, book, crafts (etc) where are your thoughts? When you're alone, what do you ... contemplate? Maybe what questions do you ask yourself; not specifically about yourself, but about ... I suppose existence as a whole, and where you fit in to it.

Do you think there is a purpose? Do you feel you have one? Maybe you don't, and you just plod through life day by day, waiting for the inevitable... Let us discuss and share.

So this isn't a sequel to A Dog's Purpose? :(

Ha! I was thinking about this a while ago and realized that I'm not even close to discover which is my purpose in life. However, I'd love to do figure it out and do something about it.

I don't know whether if it is a "call" but I find helping others, very enticing and fulfilling. No matter what, just helping others even with the smallest of things, is already good for me.

Great thread idea @Flash525 .

Needs some thought. I think the bolded word of 'fitting in', is a huge one, what is our reasoning, our mission statement as such as we walk through life, the 'why' of our existence.

I think my moral compass has not changed a huge amount since childhood, my personality leans towards a 'giving to others' nature, I'm not materialistic and so by nature, I'm a kind hearted soul, I'd say, so my purpose as such, is to others in the caring of others, rather than self-interest.

Life's 'purpose' is absolutely personal and will be different to all, the things we 'want' or desire, are different to the way in which we conduct our path, although intrinsically linked.

The things I think about each day, revolve around others, the care of my elderly parents and all that entails, maintaining my jobs, my partner and supporting her, being the best friend and brother I can be, my purpose I suppose is ensuring all those plates stay spinning.

The why are we here bit is to I suppose, experience all that life can provide and we can give to the best of our abilities.

I think you both know that I volunteer for a mental health & suicide prevention hotline, and you'd both be right in saying that the feeling of being able to give back is a strong one.
  • Improving the lives of others; ensuring people are okay, greeting people with a good morning/afternoon/evening, staying positive
  • Listening to people; their concerns, their stories, their opinions and experiences
  • Watching people (not in a perverted way); noticing changes etc
  • Talking to people; sometimes all someone needs is a friendly face who's willing to talk to them
Are all attributes I think everyone should aim for. The world would be such a better place if more people simply cared about everyone else.

Talking to people; sometimes all someone needs is a friendly face who's willing to talk to them

There was a homeless guy near my place, I can't remember how we started talking but it all started gradually: I'd give him food or money (sometimes) and make some small talk. One night, we talked for a good hour and before leaving, he told me that he was happy to have someone to talk to, that he wasn't expecting me to give him money (on the contrary, he refused to take it).

A few days later he told me that he had found a bed available at this church nearby, and he was happy and grateful for (finally) having a roof and a proper bed. I saw him a while ago, in the city, but I was in a rush... I regret that i didn't stop to greet him.

We all should all help in whatever way we can, with the energy we have to spare & give. You should be very very proud mate @Flash525 of your work with the Samaritans and I know we've talked it through and that kind of example is one of life's gifts to provide.

I personally pride myself on being the best human I can be, to the best of my efforts, as a friend, or simply the Jim in someone's life.

Having been through a huge amount of pain and trauma in my own life, I know and recognise it's effect and so if I can help others avoid that or heal from that, in whatever shape they experience it, then, to me, that's 'the win'.

My purpose in life is to serve as a warning to others.

My purpose in life right now seems to be to take care of everyone else.

Well thank you for that. You seem like a very very nice guy and I think you deserve it; in spite of your appalling taste in superhero movies.:p:cwink:

:funny: I have wonderful taste, I believe. We like what we like. :cwink: Thanks for kind words. Much appreciated. Pretty ace yourself.
