In these boards, I've heard a number of different opinions on which storyline should be used in the next X-Men film, should there be one (fingers crossed).

Age of Apocalypse seems to be a popular choice, along with Endsong and Days of the Future Past. But, as I've come to believe, there's only one true option...

OPERATION: ZERO TOLERANCE

In the comics, Operation: Zero Tolerance was fueled by the recent Onslaught events and the death of Graydon Creed. Creed could be killed in an opening scene and Onslaught could be replaced with the events on Alcatraz Island and the deaths of the innocent soldiers at Jean Grey's hand.

For those of you who are out of the loop, Operation: Zero Tolerance (OZT) introduced the villainous Bastion, a Sentinel in disguise, who used an army of Prime Sentinels to attack and eventually take control of the Xavier Institute, while capturing several X-Men. Bastion then gained control of the Xavier Protocols, a series of information created by the Professor himself on instructions on the quickest and most efficient way to kill off memebers of the X-Men.

Now, on the silverscreen, this story could provide for an emotionally and visually stunning film. In the past, Sentinels have been cut out of scripts because of budget issues. If this issue resurfaces, Sentinels could be dropped once more in favor of Prime Sentinels (Sentinel/Human Cyborgs) or perhaps human soldiers with advanced ordnance.

Not only would the X-Men face Bastion and his army of Sentinels, the mutants would also have to face a world that has turned its back on them. Stripped of their rights and of their very citizenship, the X-Men are thrown into this civil unrest. With government funded hunting of mutants, war is on the horizon. Fingers are pointed and blood is shed.

A dark horizon, indeed.

While many would disagree, I think that is a wonderful idea! Especially if it brings either Marrow or Ceceila Reyes into play! And if Halle or Hugh wasn't for it - they could just be captured for the remainder of the film and have it be the new mutants fighting to save mankind, led by Iceman! How perfect!

The one and only story arc where he took charge of a serious situation...

I'm all for it.

OZT was a GREAT Sentinel storyline, I find Bastion as an anchor and center for the Sentinels much more compelling and realistic than Master Mold or Trask, though those guys should be included.

I loved the Prime Sentinels, and think this would be a good place to pick up...

Problem is... Third movie ended with a semblance of human-mutant peace, resting in the President's Office... odd to blow that completely away to make way for the sentinels...

You could always start the movie off with an attack by some mutant that blows up a city ala Civil War. Then they could bring the sentinals in to protect the citizens.

Like I said, just have the assassination of Graydon Creed in one of the opening shots have a news broadcast mentioning it. Also, OZT was created due to Onslaught, too. Instead of Onslaught, have OZT created because of the attack on Alcatraz Island (Phoenix).

Really good idea! I would definately include Gambit and Marrow as they were a big part of OZT, but I would have Storm, Wolverine and Beast captives (managing to escape after some time, but not having a way to actually get out of Bastions base: fuel for some good action scenes for those who still crave Wolvie stabbing someone) while Iceman leads Shadowcat, Colossuss and the new students Gambit and Marrow (who could be in the start of a romantic relationship.) to their rescue. And Moira MacTaggert could be hard at work cloning a new body for Professor X (as the one he moved his mind into turned out to be insufficient for his vast telepathic powers.)
What if Rogues powers were slowly coming back to her in waves? And in a "evil mutant" attack, in lets say a mall where Bobby and Rogue could be shopping, lead by Pyro and his new friend Miss Marvel(!) Rogue attacks her in desperation to save Bobby and accidentally kills her making her the REAL Rogue from the comics. But with the startling new developments that she now finally can control her absorbing power? Just an idea.
I think that the Brotherhood, now lead by Pyro, could also have been captured by Bastion and are finally busted out by Magneto whom, during the course of the movie has regained more and more of his powers.
Massive fight at the end with one big, classic, sentinel and lots of Prime sentinels (The Brotherhood and X-Men fighting side by side again. Mutants VS Cyborgs) that end up in Bastions base totally demolished.

What do you think?
