Would Optimus have put up a better fight against Megatron if he knew Megs killed Jazz shortly before?

The battle was WAYYYYYYYYYY too one-sided..... one of the few flaws I had with this terrific movie.

That is a good question. In the movie, I felt that Optimus was more civil and reformed than Megatron, who in turn was much more animalistic and primal than Optimus. Optimus was probably thinking about the Allspark and Sam's protection, while Megatron just cared about beating the life out of Optimus. It was definetely one-sided, but I think with good reason. Perhaps in the sequel we will see a re-match?

the fight was definitely the weakest part of the movie which sucks because it should've been the climax. Megs owned OP left and right of a very short battle. even worse, you never really saw the fight. majority of the time it sat in the background while Sam ran around.

and why didn't OP figure to stick the all-spark in Megs instead of being so quick to decide to just sacrifice himself? he made that decision before they even got to the city. honorable as a leader but way too hasty and weak for Prime if you ask me. usually generals/captains/whatever will strategize their opponent's demise before thinking that suicide will be the second-hand solution. and for Sam to just reach up to Megs like putting a lightbulb into a ceiling socket really just showed Megs was a moron.

regardless of that disappointment the movie kicked so much ass I can't wait to see it again.

Yea OP got his ass handed to him. But I'm guessing he was more worried about the humans around him getting hurt, and having saving sams life. I hope we get a rematch. Megatron was such a badass in this movie.

Optimus Prime should have been able to handle Megatron, they should be equals with a slight edge to Prime because hey he's Optimus friggin Prime.

I think Prime had too much on his mind with protecting Sam, the allspark and the humans while Megatron had nothing hold him back. If he knew Jazz was killed by Megatron then he might of fought better.

i think it's good that the decepticons are stronger/better than the autobots. it makes the war harder for them, and way more entertaining.

I saw it again tonight (my fifth time, lol) and Optimus was definetely distracted during the final battle. Megatron didn't care what happened so long as he obtained the Allspark. Optimus had his team, Sam and the entire planet to be worried about, lol. I can't wait to see them go at it again in the sequel.

He knew damn well he killed Jazz. Watch the movie again. When he finally makes it to the battle, he transforms and says "Megatron!"

Megatron then tosses both halves of Jazz to each side and says "Prime."

Now mind you, while Optimus may have missed this, if he didn't he should have touched upon it. I seriously hope they expand their battle on the DVD.

I thought the exact same thing, but then at the end Ironhide comes up to him and says, "we couldn't save him" and then Optimus says, "...oooh, Jazz." in a manner that suggested he didn't know Jazz had been injured or killed. Right before he and Megatron go to battle, Megatron transforms and has to fly several city blocks to reach Optimus, which may suggest that Optimus didn't in fact know Jazz was dead until after the fight because he and Megatron were initially very far apart.

I'm glad it was more one-sided, just for the reason that Optimus Prime is civil and just plainly a nice guy...yah, he killed Bonecrusher with ease, because that was just a soldier, but Megatron is a huge threat, and even if Prime saw that he killed Jazz, that still wouldn't show Prime beating the crap out of Megatron.

That's why he said he'll destory the All Spark using his Spark/Matrix of Leadership, because he probably knew that if Megatron returns, he had to destroy the All Spark because he couldn't beat Megatron.

I don't want a rematch though...the final battle in Transformers between the two was amazing, but for a better match, I'd like to see Optimus Prime vs. Starscream.

And I have a great idea for that; Starscream returns, finds Energon in underneath the Earth's crust below oil fields or in the ocean where Magatron was dumped, and ala Beast Wars, it gives him more power like Terrosaur, and also makes him bigger, which changes his jet form into a bigger, and possibly a blue/red/white jet like G1, and those two go at it.

If Optimus would've grabbed the All Spark and punched it himself through Megatron's chest, wouldn't it have killed Prime too since he is holding on to it?

That's an interesting point. Sam could do it because he's not a robotic entity and thus immune to any kickback from the reaction.

I don't think so since Bumblebee held unto the All-Spark and he was fine .

Bumblebee wasn't punching it through another robot's chest though.

I'm glad it wasn't in the movie, because it would've raised some questions regarding it.

Okay not having seen the film I just want to raise this point.

Megatron is in his protoform mode and Prime has an Earth mode...NOW wouldn't this have made the fight one sided in Megatron's favour? Surely the Transformers are going to be stronger in their Protoform modes as they are made from material from Cybertron as opposed to Primitive Earth vehicles?

Honestly, I think they are still made of the same material as there protoforms, and if you see there protoforms they are a lot more slimmer looking compared to earth form, so really it looks like they have put more muscle on if you get what I mean. Whether this impacts there physical strength its hard to tell, we may never know.

I like the way the movie ended (except when I first saw it, I couldn't understand what's going on- it wasn't in my fourth viewing when I noticed optimus tripped megatron so Sam can get closer to shove the allspark in Megs chest, it all makes sense now). The real fight between Megatron & Optimus should be saved in the end of the trilogy or one of the sequel. I'm hoping Optimus combines with one of his trailer to match the size of megatron.

Megatron didn't trip...he leaned over to take the All Spark from Sam while Prime was on the ground. And I never liked the idea of Prime's vehicle mode to even have a trailer, so, no, I'm not a fan of that idea....although, if Ultra Magnus were to ever appear, I would love to see them combine into one robot. That would be cool.
