deo anyone thing Craig has a chance at a Best Actor oscar? Just put to one side the whole "but it's a James Bond film' one second:

* He's in a class/generation of actors (along with Colin Farrel, Guy Pearce and Eric Bana) who has been 'due' for recognition for some time now, with a history of good work (another example would be Clive Owen, who finally got a nom to years ago). Previous bonds weren't.

* He has good connections (worked with Speilberg, Hanks for example). Previosu bonds didn't.

* He has a strong theatre background (only Dalton did before him)

* Genre perforamnces can get recognition (Johhny Depp, Pacino in Dick Tracy, McKellan in LotR)

*the most emotional performance of Bond we've ever seen

* Craig getting recognition would be a headline friendly story, considering his initial unpopularity, fans and critics doing a complete 180

*Put on weight to play the charatcer in a pseudo-method-y way

* Is playing a literary, as opposed to movie, version of the charcter for the first time in quite some time (if ever, arguably)

* Further to this, for the first time Bond's flaws (his weakness for women, his remoteness, his fundamentaly anachronistical quality, are tied to a well rounded, flawed, character, not a superhero)

* The charcter and the performance has an arc/i] for the for time since OHMSS

Most importantly:

*Will almost certainly get precursor award attention (Golden Globes, maybe Baftas)

Crucially:

*Was unviersally praised in the role. Everyone loved him as Bond

*General conscensus is that he was the best thing in the movie

I accept it's a long shot. But i feel it is possible, which is more than you could say for other bonds

I dunno we'll see. It could be like Depp's nod for Pirates, but that's all it was.

As far as winning it, not going to happen. It would be awesome though.

i doubt it...i, personally, believe his performance IS Oscar worthy, but the mere fact that it's a Bond film will probably sway the judges opinions.

Not for James Bond, anyway. He could plausibly get a Best Supporting Actor nom for INFAMOUS.

He was good in it, but I doubt he'll even be considered.

Oscar judges won't choose Craig cos he's playing a hero just like Bale didn't get one cos of playing Dark Knight.

Bale is a great actor and all, but what about his Batman performance deserved an oscar?

What? no I'm just saying Craig won't get one like Bale didn't get one.

Bale could get one his performance in Harsh Times or The Prestige.

I could see Daniel Craig getting a nomination for a Golden Globe. I think it's very possible.

I don't remember McKellen getting an oscar nod... and although i loved the performance, it would be a bit of a stretch to say it was Oscar worthy.

The only other movie that really impressed me as much as CR was "The Departed". That will be up for quite a few nominations, I'll bet, but I don't think 2006 was a very strong year. Even if it wasn't a strong year, they still won't nominate Craig for an Oscar. They'll put up the hammier, look-at-me-act performances in the nomination slots.

If Connery didn't get an oscar for Bond then Craig aint getting one. Oh and neobiddo999, Connery has worked with Speilberg. [sarcasm]There's a little film called, The last crusade, you might of heard of it.[/sarcasm]

Agreed. The departed will do well.

Very doubtful, though Craig is one of the best Bonds I ever saw.

He was.

For the best performance by an actor in a supporting role:

Jim Broadbent, "Iris"
Ethan Hawke, "Training Day"
Ben Kingsley, "Sexy Beast"
Ian McKellen, "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring"
Jon Voight, "Ali."

Obviously im talking about who they worked with prior to playing bond. honestly think about what you said for a moment

If Connery was never nominated then neither will Craig.

His performance was excellent, one of the things that made Casino Royale the first Bond movie I've ever enjoyed. But I wouldn't go so far as to say it's "Oscar Worthy".

Ethan Hawke got an oscar nod?! Awesome, I thought both were great performances, and it's crazy that i didn't know they got the oscar nod. Good stuff. And Craig's performance was the best/most noteworthy Bond performance yet, but probably not one of the top 5 of the year.
