Let's face it.

Iron Man has received extremely high praise from critics and fans alike.

Should we consider the possibility of getting a few Oscar nods?

I believe so.

Best Visual Effects?
Best Costume designs?
Art Direction?
Sound?
Maybe Best Actor Robert Downey, Jr.? I mean, Johnny Depp got a nomination for Captain Jack Sparrow. :)

Those could be some of the posibbilities.

lol. I immediately reminded myself of Depp's Oscar nomination while I was making this thread.

It's also from that why so many people are gearing up for a possible Oscar nod for Heath Ledger.

Yeah. From what I've seen from trailers to tv spots, I think Heath most likely we get one. I hope he gets one. Because everything that I've seen for Joker has been remarkable. But we'll just have to see in 7 to 8 months from now.

As for Robert, I could see it as well. But the major movie season is really just beginning. :D

I was thinking of making this thread. I came on and was about to make it, and saw that someone already had. :) It seems that our minds on the topic were in the same place, I suppose.

I'd say just visual effects and sound nominations. Which it'll probably win.

Visual, sound costume probably win those

Robert may get nominated but like Johnny Depp and Alec Guiness, he won't win it. Of course there's a chance he could like Russell Crowe did for Gladiator.

I'm hoping for a nom for Downey Jr.; even if he doesn't win, it'd still be a good acknowledgement from the Academy (like they did for Depp in Pirates).

I'm going to really enjoy the Oscars again this year if what we've said are true. :im:I mean, this year for last year's movies was good. But I think 2007 for 2006's movies was much better, I think. From what I remember. :) So far, for comic based movies, I hope Robert and Heath get nominated. Even if they don't win, it would be nice. :)

Iron Man was a fun movie but its not oscar material in terms of best actor/actress, supporting actor/actress...this is just my opinion though. I can see a SFX oscar nomination and sound editing but thats just about it.

I doubt it, maybe for Sound, SFX & possibly Adapted Screenplay. Hey Borat got nominated for that.

I am betting on just a Visual Effects nomination, although the Oscar win will probably be claimed by another movie.

I Think Iron Man can win Visual Effects but after just seeing Narnia, Iron Man has competition.

Nah Iron Man & Iron Monger looked so real. You can tell the lion (I forgot his name) & beats are fake.

It's going to be pretty close on FX... Benjamin Button, I haven't seen it, but is getting a lot of love and they say the fx are groundbreaking... TDK did a great job with Harvey...

IMO, Benjamin Button shouldn't got a nod for visual effect, I didn't see anything in that was groundbreaking. And I feel Iron Man's visual effect surpass The Dark Knight's.

Not a huge fan of the film, started really well but became a bit silly towards the end.

That said RDJ was very good as Tony Stark - i thin his performance here helped him get a nod for TT.

In a Ledger-less year, he'd be a reasonable bet for a lead nomination i think - quite simply i can't think of many other actors who could make the character of Tony Stark seem so spontateous, and he doens't condescend to thew role - he actually seems proud to be in the film, and be iron man.

Sorry guys, looks like Iron Man will have no wins: it was snubbed completely at both the Visual Effects and Sound Guilds Awards. Button and The Dark Knight had a virtual even split with the Visual Effects awards (Button slightly edging out TDK (and WALL-E getting some awards, as well as Changeling) and TDK earned more wins with the Sound Guild - with Slumdog and WALL-E picking up wins as well.

I am curious as to why you feel IM deserves it more than TCCOBB. Did you realize that Brad Pitt's head for that entire first half of the film was completely cgi? No make-up, no actor, it was created from scratch. And it blended seamlessly with the environment. They got a damn performance out of it without having Pitt being there at all.

Creating realistic human texture is something that has been coveted by the entire sfx industry since it's inception. Now it's a reality. TCCOBB pushed the bar. IM deserved it's nomination, but everything there was done as well, if not better, with Transformers.

It was dissapointing to see Iron Man win no awards. TCCOBB did deserve it, defenitely, but I still wish Iron Man would have won atleast 1 award.

I'm pleased enough that IM lost to TCCOBB, rather than TDK in the SFX department. At least I could understand why that happened, since TCCOBB had such good effects. But the IM suit alone should've got IM a nomination for costume design, IMO. That was the true snub.
