Tried explaining it to someone and I looked it up on Urban Dictionary for kicks:

4. Outsourcing 8 up, 2 down
Corporate use of slave labor in third world countries ruled by dictators, for the express purpose of avoiding American taxes.
No wonder so many corporate executives are billionaires! If not for outsourcing and free trade, they would have to pay their fair share of taxes and end up mere millionaires!

6. outsourcing 14 up, 21 down
The natural result of governments and unions making it too expensive for a company to employ workers in it's country of origin.
We can no longer afford all the red tape and taxes the American government makes us deal with when we employ American workers, so we're outsourcing to India.

Which one are you more in league with?

I shoulda made a poll out of that cooking one.

Aren't "4" and "6" just two different ways of saying the exact same thing? And what happened to good old "1" and "2" beginning the first 2 choices on a list?

And what's the deal with airline food?

4 and 6 were the entries in the dictionary listing...I felt that they were saying the same thing, but that means that 4 is being sarcastic.

I almost think this thread could turn political

It's not just about taxes, its also about profit margin....if you can pull in a mass profit from having something produced 5 times cheaper overseas and still the charge the same as when it was produced in the US.....why not??

Because the economy tanks when all the money is sent away?

Outsourcing is good. It provides jobs in countries that need jobs and helps keep costs to American businesses down which will pass savings on to the consumer. Outsourcing completely isn't very good for business but using outsourcing to some degree is nothing but expected these days.

If you want to see prime examples of igonance, a great place to them is in the "popular" definitions of controversial topics at Urban Dictionary.

...but that particular company still profits so what do they care??

any private company has no obligation to keep jobs in the US or to send jobs abroad...companies look at what will have the lowest overhead and the highest profit...if that can be acheived by sending jobs abroad then that's what happens

Uhhmmm...Have we in the United States ever been on the actual 'source-ing' part of being outsourced?

Except for our dollar that is.

That's all well and good for Rich Uncle Pennybags at the top of the food chain, but try telling that to the 1300 employees my company laid off this year so they can save a buck sending their jobs to India.

If we don't outsource jobs, we can't import them either.

Screw "other countries." There are plenty of your countrymen that need work, worry about them.

Okay. Let's take the company I work for. We have 13 call centers in the US and then 7 outside of the US. Production costs for each US call center are nearly double the cost of all 7 international call centers together and have considerably lower productivity.

Now... Imagine that we have to open up those seven call centers in the US. Now we're paying the amount it would be to have 70 call centers out side of the US for just 20 in the US.

Now your Verizon bill just tripled. Thanks. :word:

If you (Any company) must outsource your customer service call center, you must outsource it to a country that also speaks your country's native language!

hahahahahaha, you'd think so wouldn't you. I wouldn't call broken english my country's native language. I don't listen to my relatives that can hardly speak english yet I'm supposed to listen to some idiot in a call center in a third world country

What's worse is when they give you a fake American name. Five seconds into the conversation and they're already lying to you.

You try having a conversation with someone named Datu or Dalisy or Benjie or Banalay (real names). They're told to give American names to make the conversation easier.

Because more often than not if it is 5 times cheaper to produce it may be five times as crap.

LIke IT support. Outsourced IT support sucks bum hole. Our Indian counter parts are paid next to nothing for the same job. However they are nto as good as us. So I guess there is a balance.

Statistically international representatives in the fields of sales, billing, and techincal support have higher levels of productivity and on average have higher quality scores.

They have a better ability to follow instructions. I don't know if you've worked in a call center before but imagine having 900 agents that do exactly what you say when you say it and the way you say it should be done.

Now imagine having to pay 4 times the amount that you paid those 900 foreign agents for 300 American college kids who spend all their cash on smoking weed and can't even remember who their supervisor is on a day to day basis.

I'm not saying that Americans are worthless I'm saying that international call centers make the numbers look good and that is what CEOs like. Numbers.
