Has anyone ever been denied a job because you were considered "overqualified"?

Once. I applied to stack shelves in a supermarket and got told that they wanted somebody whp was going to say on, not dissapear to college as soon as the time came around.

That's what I hate, most companies think you're gonna stay there forever.

I hate that too.
But more than this I hate getting my socks wet.

I have. It sucks because I needed a job. I wouldn't have applied if I didn't need the work.

It's almost like you have to be some sort of dropout to get a job. I'm starting to wonder if me writing that I have a degree on applications is keeping me from some jobs.

you tailor your resumes for the job that you apply for

What kind of job are you looking for?

I've never been denied a job because I was overqualified. The weirdest I've gotten is after I was laid off from a previous job and interviewing, I had an interview with a place about two months into my search and the highest level employee I was interviewing with said he wasn't sure if he felt comfortable hiring someone that another company didn't hire. Like everyone gets hired by the first place they interview with...

Well, really I'd like a graphic design job; but I mean just jobs like cashiers, or stocker, and stuff like that. I applied to 2 Borders stores three times and Virgin Megastore three times, how qualified do you have to be to work at Borders and Virgin Megastore?

This summer I interviewed for a job as an audio book recorder/editor.

During the interview I started asking questions about the depth of the editing equipment, the quality of the microphones used in recording sessions, the levels of voice talent needed...

The guys looked at me like 'huh?'. The main interviewer said, "No, no, it's really simple. You just use the microphone built into the laptop, and 'click & drag' with the mouse to edit, so that it's easier..."

He (and apparantly the company) didn't know what the hell they were doing, in terms of producing QUALITY audio books!?! That, and I probably asked for more than they were willing to pay an entry level position...

...I found another job.
