I dunno if anyone's done a topic like this, but which Oscar wins from years past d you think were, in your opinion, overrated/underserved? It doesn't have to be just Best Picture wins either. For example, here's my choices.

Best Picture:

* Slumdog Millionare- We gave Best Picture and 7 other Oscars to this just because some clod called it "a feel-good film"? A movie that's about torture, murder, drug lords, prostitution, children in danger, and other equally NOT "feel-good" stuff? AND it has an overly-convoluted plot to boot? Yet Benjamin Button, Fost/Nixon and other, better movies that were nominated got snubbed. *sigh*.

* Crash (2004)- The most infamous one to date. There's a reason why it's still being debated if it's win should be retracted or not...

Best Actor/Actress:

* Cate Blanchett for Blue Jasmine- Don't get me wrong, guys. I REALLY enjoy her as an actress, but she spends most of the movie crying here! Sandra Bullock was ROBBED out of getting an Oscar for Gravity in favor of THIS? ********.
* Daniel Day-Lewis for Lincoln- Again, he won over Hugh Jackman? Yes, Lewis is a fantastic actor, but he ALWAYS wins every time he gets nominated! It didn't help that Lincoln was, unfortunately, a boring as hell movie for those who don't give a **** about politics! And this is coming from someone like me who LOVES historical movies/biopics! Next time, Academy, let him lose. Just this once.....

Again, these are just my opinions and I strongly express all of you who comment on this thread to give your own picks not to hold back. All I ask is you be respectful to those who disagree with your choices. Have fun!:woot:

For Best Picture:

Crash (2005) and The Hurt Locker (2009). Sucked!

For Acting:

Al Pacino for Scent of a Woman. Terrible film and terrible performance. Tommy Lee Jones for Fugitive. Great actor but to bead DiCaprio and Fiennes is a crime. For those performances it is!

I liked Scent of a woman. Was that the one he played a blind man?

KNEW I was forgetting something! Thanks for reminding me of Hurt Locker. REALLY, Academy? You gave in to the morons on the Internet and gave THAT Best Picture over Avatar just because of "ZOMG AVATAR'S DANCES WITH WOLVES WITH ALIENS B/C THEY HAVE THE SAME THEMEZ SO IT SUX DURRRRR". :cmad:

Sean Penn for Milk- I honestly think all the political hoofla due to Prop 8 helped Penn win this. Heck, he even went on a bit in his speech and politicized the whole thing. That Best Actor Oscar should have gone to Mickey Rourke for The Wrestler.

Leonardo DiCaprio for The Revenant- He was going to win it eventually, but I don't think it should have been for this movie.

Agreed. Leo should've been nominated for The Great Gatsby instead of Wolf of Wall Street IMO. And yeah, Rourke should've won for Wrestler. Then again, in a better world, RDJ would've been nominated for Iron Man. But that's just me.

- Crash for Best Picture over Brokeback Mountain
- The King's Speech for Best Picture over The Social Network
- Tom Hooper for Best Director over David Fincher
- Eddie Redmayne for Best Actor over Michael Keaton

Probably the most egregious errors in the last fifteen years.

Also, Three 6 Mafia for Best Song. THIS was the reason Daft Punk didn't get nominated for Best Score for Tron Legacy (DAMN good soundtrack, btw); because the Academy was so embarrassed they gave a song called "It's Hard Out There For A Pimp" an Oscar. And yet they nominated it anyway. Idiots.

Tommy Lee Jones for playing Stock Tommy Lee Jones Character in The Fugitive. That he beat Leonardo DiCaprio in What's Eating Gilbert Grape and Ralph Fiennes in Schindler's List is absurd.

Shakespeare in Love winning best picture over Saving Private Ryan.
Gwyneth Paltrow winning best actress for Shakespeare in Love over Cate Blanchett in Elizabeth.

Kim Basinger (L.A. Confidential) comes to mind.

Al Pacino for Scent of a Woman. Terrible film and terrible performance.

I can't believe that Mira Sorvino won best supporting actress for MIGHTY APHRODITE....

Am I the only one who still loves that song? Movie was much better than I expected, too.

Oh, Alejandro Inarritu winning Best Director over George Miller last year was a crime.

I saw Crash only once (several years ago). But as I recall… it was very good. Brokeback Mountain was very good too. And certainly, a debate can be had as to which one is better. But Crash winning is not an outrage. It’s not in the same category as, for example, crappy Kramer vs. Kramer beating Apocalypse Now.

Braveheart

The movie tries to portray William Wallace as some sort of righteous savior when he speaks about freedom, but on the battlefield his actions show that he's a stone cold killer with no remorse or empathy for anyone who isn't Scottish. These two different intentions for the character clashed for me and I couldn't root for or relate to Wallace at all. A finely made film, but this conflict makes the movie seem unworthy of a Best Picture and Best Director award.

Disagreed, Hard out here for a pimp is a dang good song.

Eddie Redmayne for Best Actor over Michael Keaton

There's one I forgot. You know, I like both Birdman and The Theory of Everything, but do believe that had Keaton not actually gotten it, the Best Actor Oscar probably would have gone to Redmayne already. At the very least, I'm glad that Keaton got the Best Actor award in most of the other ceremonies. I still enjoyed his speech at the Golden Globes and wonder what his Oscar speech would have been, had he won.
