Nicely settled in his new life with the Brown family in Windsor Gardens, Paddington comes across a one of a kind pop-up book in Mr. Gruber’s antique shop, and immediately decides that it would be the perfect present for his Aunt Lucy’s 100th birthday. Determined to get and give it as his gift, he takes on several jobs to raise enough funds so he can buy it. Unfortunately, just before he is able to do so, the book is stolen and Paddington makes it his mission, with the help of his friends, to recover the missing item.

Got a soft spot for the 1st one. Really funny in places with buckets of charm.
Not expecting much from the sequel though. Have a feeling it will succumb to the 'bigger, louder' rule of thumb.

First film was surprisingly good. Maybe one of the best family films I've seen in a while.

The first movie was fantastic. A friend recommended the movie to me but I was unsure about it so he made watch it with him and boy, I am glad he did. The full trailer was excellent and the reviews are very good as well. Looking forward to it. Just hope it finds a good distributor in the wake of the Weinstein fiasco.

This one comes out this weekend where I live and I still haven't seen it because I can't find good seat (only 3 subtitled showings per day and only seats in first row are still available). Will have to wait for weekdays.

StudioCanal has signed a deal with Lionsgate, so that's probably where this sequel will end up at.

The reviews might get me to give this a try.

Empire gave it a 5* review too. Happy with this.

Bet there were spoilers in their review. There are literally spoilers in the magazine, across every aspect of their magazine, and worst of all, their reviews. Really has gone down the pan has Empire.

Anyhoo, rant over, Paddington 2 - count me in, absolutely loved the first one and have a very soft spot for the character since childhood.

Warner Bros. Wins ‘Paddington 2’ Bidding War

EXCLUSIVE: Paddington 2 is going to Warner Bros., the home of the pic’s producer David Heyman. Warner Bros. made the news official in a press release this morning. Weinstein originally possessed domestic rights on the StudioCanal movie. The news today confirms what Deadline originally reported, that WB was one of the leading contenders for domestic rights to the pic.

Warner Bros. beat out Sony, Lionsgate and Global Road in a bidding war that reached $30M.

Further points need to be worked out on the deal. The trick now is for Warner Bros. to meet the pic’s Jan. 12 release date and market the sequel in time.

Warner Bros. is known for great blockbuster family entertainment, and can look forward to starting off their 2018 with a solid result. The first movie also opened over the 2015 MLK weekend to $25.5M over four-days and ultimately grossed $76.2M at the domestic B.O, $268M worldwide. Paddington 2 will face off against 20th Century Fox/DreamWorks’ The Post in a wide expansion, Lionsgate’s Liam Neeson movie The Commuter, and Screen Gems’ Proud Mary. Already, the sequel to Heyday Films’ and Studiocanal’s 2014 family smash is on its way to a massive UK result — it opened this weekend at 59% above the original. The franchise is based on Michael Bond’s bestselling children’s stories. Paul King directs from a script he wrote with Simon Farnaby.

TWC’s share of the Paddington 2 sale will go toward keeping the company solvent as the board moves toward selling the remaining assets. TWC is still in discussions with Fortress for $35M in bridge financing, but the Paddington 2 cash will help the company meet its commitments as the board moves to broker a deal for all assets by year’s end. One of the contingency points in the Paddington 2 deal per sources is that the Weinstein Co. and StudioCanal will retain profit participation and involvement in future sequels.

This is great for the film. WB's marketing department is at least very solid.

Saw it last Saturday. Very good movie about on par with the first movie.

Came here to post the WB rights acquisition news but I see it has been posted already. I like the news. WB will do well with the marketing. I hope they push it hard. With a major studio like WB backing the movie, it can do great business during the entire Holiday season.

Paddington 2 opened in UK to thunderous numbers. 10.8 million on OW with a robust PTA. Will finish with 50 million+ in UK. Fantastic result for the movie.

Official Synopsis:

Following the worldwide hit “Paddington,” one of the most successful family films of all time, this much-anticipated sequel finds Paddington (Ben Whishaw) happily settled with the Brown family in London, where he has become a popular member of the local community, spreading joy and marmalade wherever he goes. While searching for the perfect present for his beloved Aunt Lucy’s hundredth birthday, Paddington sees a unique pop-up book in Mr. Gruber’s antique shop, and embarks upon a series of odd jobs to buy it. But when the book is stolen, it’s up to Paddington and the Browns to unmask the thief.

feel sorry for this one. got lost in the crowd somewhat.
will hopefully recover.

I’m surprised. Reviews have been fantastic and there aren’t a lot of family movies out there right now besides Jumanji.

I think releasing it in January was a mistake. It's a good, charming and wholesome family movie.

Yeah it has the rare 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. It should be doing better.

Paddington 2 becomes best reviewed film ever

In the lineup of the most critically acclaimed films, Citizen Kane and The Godfather have been bested by a bear from “darkest” Peru. The aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes has declared Paddington 2 to be the best reviewed film in the site’s history.

I don't think everyone knows about the film. Awareness isn't that high.

They dumped the film in January after the holidays and when a lot less people are going to the movies. Bad move.
