I was wondering am I the only one who loved Parallax's design? Poop jokes aside I loved the faces and hands push and twisting all through his body. I loved his human looking face which to me was far scarier than the dragon fly kind of creature from the comic. What say you all?

Looks aside what did Parallax actually do for it to be so feared by beings like the Guardians?

Apparently it destroys entire civilisations? Well, didn't look like it when Hal blew a tanker up in it's face. It was reeling in pain.

It just didn't come across as this world ending threat.

Well yeah I was mainly speaking from a physical design aspect. His actions and behavior were not nearly as frightening as they should have been. I did love when he wouls literally suck the souls out of his enemies but that is pretty much the most horrifying thing he ever did.

I don't love the design, but I think it worked conceptwise. This was a hybrid of Parallax and Legion. It was dirty, excrementous, smoky, tentacled cloud of fear and pretty much just disgusting. The faces were fantastic, and effectswise, it was pretty solid.

The thing sucks the fear/souls out of innocent people. That's a pretty horrifying concept. It infected Hector Hammond with fear, and look what he turned into.

The shot where it's pouring into Coast City and crowds are running from it was pretty fantastic. It clearly has some serious power. We're never told it can't be hurt, just that fear is a powerful energy.

We're told it destroys worlds, and the scale of destruction is hinted at. We see what it can do to Green Lanterns. I think Parallax was a credible threat, just not a very deep one.

Wasn't credible at all. It's this civilisation destroying being that the greatest GLs and even Guardians fear...

It comes to Earth as a black cloud, gets hurt by missiles and an exploding tanker, doesn't really do much of anything, gets defeated by a rookie GL.

I mean, Earth's militaries wouldn't have had a problem with it, going by what i saw. Reeling in pain from a couple of missiles and an exploding tanker.

Which brings me to another point, where the hell was Earth's response to this massive, city sized cloud of fear? It just floats in, unopposed.

Why isn't Parallax a credible threat? Because it has some weaknesses?

I don't call sucking the souls out of Green Lanterns and innocent people and then knocking Green Lantern around quite a bit "not doing anything".

Parallax was hurt by its own fear energy and the explosions, but if anything, those just pissed it off and make it redouble its efforts. It wasn't killed or stopped like that.

The police responded. It would definitely have been nice to see some kind of military response to Parallax, especially fighter jets, but its reasonable to believe that it might take a while to mobilize something like that, especially given te nature of the threat, and there's no logical reason to believe that the military could have overcome the fear element any better than the Green Lanterns did, or that they would have been able to kill it with their weapons any more than he was able to destroy it with just the energy of willpower.

Everything done with Parallax was stupid. It's stupid he was a Kronalax mashup. It's stupid that it got sucked into the sun. For several reasons:

Parallax does not have mass. It's an idea, a concept and a feeling. To destroy Parallax is to destroy fear.

Parallax is literally thousands of times more powerful than a single Lantern, but cannot prevent himself from falling into the sun.

It's a stupid way to beat him anyway. They should've gone to Oa, he should've been put in the CPB by Hal.

Parallax was so bad in this film it's unreal.

Agreed, I thought it was a credible threat, we just should have been able to spend a bit more time with it. Yes missiles, etc hurt it, but they didnt look anywere near killing it. Missiles, etc hurt The Hulk in his movies, but they didnt stop him, Parallax was the same, it could be hurt, but destroying it outright was obviously not easy.

A bit more history behind the character wouldnt have been amiss though, especially about his fall from righteous immortal to the biggest evil in the universe.

Agreed. It would have been interesting to show parallells between Krona and The Guardians.

Yes I agree it was scarier but I was not fan of it nevertheless. I loved that it was a gardian being parallax,I thought it was a brilliant idea and could give a face to the monster, so that was great, but I like the comicbook look better. Since in the comics Parallax is really yellow, I thought the color was missing in the film, but it was overall still ok for me.

As Parallax closed in on Earth it should have shown the effects world wide. Mass hysteria, rioting, wars breaking out etc. Show that Parallax inspires fear amongst the people, perhaps telepathically or something. Driving the planet crazy with fear before it even arrives.

All it really did was suck peoples souls or life essences out of them. Not really impressive or imaginative. It would have been a better threat if they did something like i just described. Make Parallax a bit more of an intangible threat too.

Thank you! Parallax isn't a physical monster. It's an abstract monster, an idea, a feeling, an onslaught of terror.

Not a Guardian who got juiced up on yellow energy so much so that he would go blundering in to the only force capable of stopping him (the entire GLC) before being able to actually defeat them. And then only to be defeated by gravity.

Yea, they should have portrayed Parallax as some unquantifiable entity of fear/terror. That's mere presence drives people crazy with fear. Like the "old ones" from the Cthulhu Mythos or something.

IMO, Parallax looked completely idiotic. It was like the Galactus cloud in F4:RoTSS except with a face.

Now that would ahve been amazing! I am all for that!

I hated the amorphous, fecal-like mass that we got in the film. The comic book design is vastly superior, and far more memorable. Hell, even this would've been a hundred times better than what we got:

That last one especially looks like something straight out of Lovecraft.
