I'm confident he will be.Hoping Knuckles is in the second one.

Sonic is cute in this, Marsden is decent, and there is a story to be told about male loneliness here. But whatever positives there are to be had, are destroyed by just how bad Carrey and everything else is in this. Seriously, wasn't there a big deal made out of Carrey understanding the character of Eggman? Because not only does he not act anything like him, he goes out of his way to be more stereotype Jim Carrey then he ever has before. He was like a parody of himself.
Well, I think he is awful here, and I like Jim Carrey. My best friend and brother also thought he was rather horrible. So, we all have our opinions. Sonic Boom Eggman is a far better take on the character imo. Especially as he is a character, not just Jim Carrey being a shell of what made him popular in the 90s.Personally, I don't think Eggman's much of a character, so it was kind of a perfect opportunity to bring back 90s "human cartoon" Carrey but as a villain. A lot of the critics agree... this movie largely works because Sonic works and Carrey works. I have one critic friend who pretty much enjoys the film entirely because of how ridiculous Carrey is in it. And I think all the side characters are solid enough and serve their purpose.
Can't wait for more Carrey in full Robotnik form and more Sonic and friends.

Yeah, to each his own. I can certainly see why Carrey's very Carrey antics would bother some here.
I guess as soon as I found out he was in the movie, this was pretty much what I expected. But as CJ points out here, there is a bit of an interesting mix between Carrey's outlandishness and his cold-heartedness in the role. Also kind of loved how bluntly the film drops his bully back-story but doesn't at all try to justify Robotnik or make us sympathize with him in the slightest (an anti-JOKER approach, if you will)
Some interesting tidbits from the screenwriter of the Sonic Movie, Patrick Casey. Apparently Jim is down for wearing a fat suit in a sequel. Patrick Casey thinks he'll get an allergic reaction to the mushrooms and get fat by them.
So I’m not the only one on earth who had Sonic as the last movie that they saw in theaters before they got shut down! So me and Sandler have at least one thing in common!
Absolutely. It might be a while. The movie still has not been released on DVD or BluRay yet. Also, hasn't been released theaterically in Japan or China.
I think we will get a sequel it just might take some time because of this virus.
