My feelings are mixed on the film.

On the one hand , it can't be denied that Naomi Scott gives a great performance and does a great acting job.

I've never seen her act before , but I was impressed .

That said , as a film , it's a slog , and really takes a much longer time to get the scares and horror .

It didn't need to be as long as it was IMO, but , nevertheless, the ending leaves things in an interesting place for a part 3.

So, I'd give it a C + to B- .

Naomi Scott (who I've never seen in a movie before) single handedly carried this f***ing movie. Her perfect performance completely sold some of the half-baked ideas, shoddy dialogue and exhaustingly goofy moments. She never felt inauthentic despite some of those weaker surrounding elements. I'm genuinely so impressed by her as an actress.

Yeah my thoughts are basically that Naomi Scott was great at playing a person slowly losing her mind and I liked the slow reveal of her backstory. But the rest of it was ridiculous. We got no more insight into what the Smile demon is (likely because the writers didn’t even bother to figure that out) and the way things play out, it does even make sense by the rules I think they set up. I guess the demon can teleport you? Who the hell knows. The movie just gets dumber and dumber as it goes on for shock value. I have no interest in whatever Smile 3 turns out to be.

I agree 100%. Naomi Scott gave it her all here, but yeah, the movie just gets repetitive and a slog in the second half. Just rehashes the first movie slightly differently and on a bigger scale.

It's no surprise that the sequel isn't hitting the level of the original. It will be the same if they make a third film.

I enjoyed this a good bit and a lot of that was to do with Naomi Scott, she was fantastic in this and totally convincing throughout.

I didn't find this as creepy as the first movie but the jump scares were certainly on point here and probably more frequent also.

I do think they re-hashed a few too many scenarios from the first movie and I am not sure how that 3rd act will stand up to repeat viewing, but that was a hell of an ending.

7.5/10
