Good grief, Charlie Brown! Your studio has decided to open your new movie against a Marvel film.

20th Century Fox has rescheduled its untitled new Peanuts movie from a November 25, 2015 release to November 6, 2015 debut ... which puts it head-to-head at the box office with director Edgar Wright's Ant-Man.

Peanuts takes over the slot originally slated for a different Fox release, B.O.O.: Bureau of Otherworldly Operations, which has been shifted to September 25, 2015 instead.

The Audacity.....!

Well I'm pretty sure Ant-Man will win in the UK :woot:

"Against" "Head to Head" :whatever

Not even close to the same target audience.

If Peanuts turned to be a good movie and if it has a bankable voice actors, it could easily top Ant-Man at the box-office.

To be honest this could go either way, I don't see Ant-Man being that popular to guarantee topping the box office. Then again Snoopy is still a popular character so it very well could come out on top

Granted, Ant-Man could be fail city either way; but *anyone* thinking a Peanuts movie is a bankable property is delusional. Even the comic strip hasn't been relevant in the Sunday funnies for years after Schulz's death. Peanuts is great for merch --- T-shirts, greeting cards, Macy's Parade inflatables -- but not much else.

wait do people actually think ant man is gonna do great at the box office?

LOL

Huh? Ant Man is actually happening?

It has potential.

Plus, Avengers 2 will almost certainly feature him in some regard to build hype for his movie.

Will Mickey Mouse stand for this...?
never!!

Peanuts is a lot more popular than you assume. It's pretty much ingrained in the lexicon, even if you're not American. You know Snoopy, you know Charlie Brown. Ant-Man....Wright would have to pull something crazy for that.

Sure, but how many people care enough to watch a Peanuts animated feature? In 1980, it might have still been relevant; in 2014, it's got the same potential as Garfield, Smurfs, Dick Tracy, Dennis the Menace and Marmaduke.

Ant-Man will be lucky if it grosses what the recent Smurf and Tintin films grossed.

I think you're looking at this through Fanboy glasses. I'm not even sure Ant-Man could succeed if it was the only film in theaters, much less against The Peanuts.

,,, and?

Movies open against each other, it's not that big of a deal.

Ant-Man isn't going to do huge blockbuster numbers anyway

With a few things present, Antman could do decent numbers.

1)A good script, directer and cast.
2)A cameo in the Avengers 2 that leads up to the solo film.
3)An cameo from one or more of the current Avengers cast.

With all these thing factoring in, the naysayers would be replaced with crickets. As for Fox placing Snoopy on the same date... Perhaps they need some more competition around Marvel films.

The 2-10% they get from Fox for the licensing Marvel films is peanuts (pun intended) So teaching Fox a lesson would be more beneficial I would think.

I'll see both . . . but I'll see Peanuts first.

I know the Peanuts characters better and have more memories of them from my youth than I do Ant-Man.

I don't know, Ant-Man might shock some people. The good, Iron Man kind of shock, I mean, not the bad, Green Lantern kind.

How dare anybody open a film against a Marvel Studios production!!!!

There will be peanut shells everywhere. Ant-Man will CRUSH. It's the MS film I am most looking forward to. Even though my Snoopy Sno-Cone Machine is still in heavy usage, it's no contest for me.

I don't think it'll be bad. I think it'll be great. It just seems like more of a niche property, with a filmmaker who doesn't make the most mainstream movies.

It's a good thing, imo. Marvel Studios is no longer in a position where every movie they make that's not a huge hit potentially sinks their studio. They can now produce a few more passion projects that don't necessarily have the massive commercial appeal.

Oh, come now --- I never said Ant-Man was going to break big, either. I just said that a Peanuts movie does not scream "bank."
