Penny Dreadful

Really? I think this might be the second best new show of the year, second only to True Detective. :) I love it through and through.

If people like Eva Green's performance in this they should check out her unappreciated movie Franklyn from 2008 co-starring Ryan Phillippe and Sam Riley.

Would be great if they introduce The Devil himself in this show at some point, but it has to be done properly! It could be epic if so.

Lovin' the show so far, but it can be even better imo.

I honestly think either this or Fargo are the best shows of the year, even above true detective.

Not bad of a movie. I enjoy the one with Ewan McGregor...Perfect Sense. Another one thats also good and kind of f***ed up is Womb....like holy hell...Its so weird...but man did Eva have the balls to do something like that..

Fargo was very good, but it would still rank third for me, true detective and the penny dreadful, then Fargo. :) all really great shows. I'm getting so spoiled.

Just a wild late night thought.

A classic monster not referenced yet is the mummy

Course that could be Amun Ra

Could Nigel Murray have the sarcophagus, at home or somewhere unknown.

What if Murray is cursed because of his travels.
Not a big stretch.

Here is the unknown in the box guys.

Anyone speculate Vanessa is his daughter too.
We know he slept with her mother.

Idle speculation , but a possibility.
Would explain much

No Creature from the Black Lagoon yet either. Although that might be too modern.

Amun Ra/vampire

Is targeting Murray
They have Mina
Since Vanessa is possessed I think the demon is targeting his offspring

How did the son die
They never slept together so no incest

I'm thinking an unknown daughter

Such an underrated movie. I looove that one. I still have Womb on my DVR but I just couldn't get myself to watch it. I feel like I will be disturbed for days if I watch it. :funny:

I finally caught up with the last two episodes and Eva Green has been killing it with her performance.

The show may have put some of the story to the side, but the character development has been great.

Agreed. True Detective is still my favorite, but Penny Dreadful in the last few weeks has become fantastic.

I could see that happening one day. Especially since The Mummy is a very loose adaptation (or at least inspired) by Bram Stoker's The Jewel of the Seven Stars. It's just that Stoker's book is a little dry and the Universal movie improved upon the concept greatly. But there is a connection there.

No Creature from the Black Lagoon yet either. Although that might be too modern.

Probably not since that is strictly a Universal invention, and unlike a werewolf, kind of copyright protected. Then again, I never really liked how that character got lumped in with the classics anyway, so I am biased.

My fave scene from the last episode is when the devil pays Vanessa a visit....in the form of Ethan Chandler...that was great. Really spooky...but it was a great scene nonetheless.

Ha! Bet everyone saw that coming! But still nice to finally confirm it.

It's nice to see them tie up some of story lines and confirm some things. They can really go any direction with the next season.

I was pleasantly surprised with Malcolm's actions. I really thought I was over Caliban when he killed Helsing but nope... I feel sorry for him again. Boy needs to learn though that no is no. :o That priest weirded me out with his last question. :funny:

Dorian crying after getting rejected? Priceless. :lmao:

"We can have the boys come over to decorate." Loved it! They're really a dysfunctional family.

As much as Eva has been owning it on the show, I'm much more interested in Ethans story and his day to day activities, hope there is much more of it seen next season.

The scene with the creature in the girl's dressing room was uncomfortable to watch, even without any death. Compared to the book he's less murderous and marginally more sympathetic.

Yup. He's my favorite character so far. :)

I like Ethan. But all the best episodes either focus heavily on Vanessa or the Creature/Caliban, and tonight was no exception. The first 20 minutes or so where Caliban dominated made him that much richer of a character and was the highlight.

I am honestly a bit disappointed with the resolution to the vampire hunting subplot. While I was fine with [blackout]Malcolm killing Mina,[/blackout] these vampires die too easily, and after so much teasing of "the Master," I thought we'd at least get Dracula's reveal. But nope. They just kill the vampires as easily as they did in the much more thrilling version of this scene in episode 6 or even the pilot.

But the emotion it allowed between Malcolm and Vanessa was surprising and hard earned. Their relationship is the most intriguing and earned. And now with Mina wrapped up, as well as Frankenstein and his monster reconciled in a way that they never were in the book, the show can really go anywhere at this point.

...With that said, is there a point to Dorian Gray? He just seems like such a waste on this show. Otherwise, it was a solid finale.

About the Priests last question:

The Catholic church's official view is that God can work good even through evil. This isn't to say God causes the evil. He just makes something good come from it. Sufferings and curses can be blessing or serve a greater purpose. The priest is telling her that even this suffering is divine and asking her if she wants to give that up. I figure in the end Venessa will stay strong and suffer on. She will find a way to make this work for her.
