Chris Pine is in preliminary discussions to take the lead in the DreamWorks drama "Welcome to People," the directorial debut of "Star Trek" and "Transformers" co-screenwriter Alex Kurtzman.

"People" follows a man who must deliver $150,000 in cash to an alcoholic sister he didn't know he had after the death of their father. Without telling her who he is, the guy also gets involved in the life of her angry 12-year-old son.

Kurtzman wrote the screenplay with regular collaborator Roberto Orci ("Mission: Impossible III") and Jody Lambert ("Of All the Things"). Kurtzman and Orci are producing through their DreamWorks-based Paper Products banner, along with Bobby Cohen.

Pine, repped by SDB Partners and John Carrabino Management, last starred in "Star Trek," which Kurtzman and Orci wrote. He is currently filming the Fox comedy "This Means War," and he will next appear in theaters in the Fox thriller "Unstoppable" in November.

Kurtzman, with Orci, co-wrote and produced "Cowboys & Aliens," which DreamWorks and Universal will open in July. The pair is also co-writing the script for the "Star Trek" sequel at Paramount for a June 2012 release.

A change of pace for both Pine and Kurtzman.

Olivia Wilde cast in the movie.

TRON: Legacy star Olivia Wilde is joining Chris Pine and Elizabeth Banks in DreamWorks' Welcome to People, which will mark Alex Kurtzman's directorial debut.

According to Risky Business, the family drama is about a businessman (Pine) who returns home after his estranged father's death and discovers that he has an alcoholic sister (Banks) with a 12-year-old son.

Wilde will play Hannah, the girlfriend of the businessman.

Filming is scheduled to star this month in Los Angeles.

Yep... well, that suddenly got me interested!! :hrt:

Now I have two pfeiffer-projects to look forward too. :woot:

They're definitely casting the most attractive people on the planet for this film. Although I still think the prettiest lady in the movie is still Chris Pine. :funny:

It doesn't look bad for Kurtzman's directional debut, the trailer showed too much however.

Looks great, I'll see it plus it's out on my bday.

Elizabeth Banks is so purty. :hrt: The film looks really good, kind of has a Cameron Crowe feel to it and Pine has the 'it factor' a leading man needs IMO.

Agreed... the movie looks great, but the original title was much better.

'Welcome to People'

Great film. Wonderfully written. These guys hit it out of the park. I will say though that I am disappointed in the title change because it was interesting and dealt a lot with the content of the film. I'm wondering if that was a change made by the studio, I hate when that happens. For those wondering the original title was 'Welcome to People.'
