Even though last year's Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief underperformed at the box office, Fox 2000 is apparently relying on the source books' popularity to sustain interest in the movie franchise.

According to Collider (and L.A. Times), Fox has set 1408 screenwriters Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski to adapt the next book "The Sea of Monsters." The main cast (including Logan Lerman) is expected to return, and the film could start shooting as early as next summer. Chris Columbus isn't expected to direct the sequel, but will produce it alongside Karen Rosenfelt.

Could be interesting. First Fox is going with another Narnia film, and now they're moving along with Percy Jackson 2. The first film wasn't that great, but it was a decent family film.

Eh didnt like the first one. Good cast save for a few.

Good luck. I enjoyed the first one, though the book was much better.
What will they do to fix what they have done?

Seeing the battle in the last book in film would be ... awesome.

I think Columbus and writer Craig Titley adapted the first book in a way that if there weren't any sequels made, the film could still stand on its own.

I enjoyed the first one and it's cast enough to watch this one. I think the problem with the first one was Columbus. Just like his Harry Potter movies were the weakest in that series.

Cool avy, JAB!

The first one was okay. The movie's fast pace/bland dialogue sort of killed any way of caring about the characters.

The cast was fine otherwise. I'll wait and see who is directing and if the budget is upped a few notches. Hopefully they learned from Narnia and PJ to put this somewhere in the low hundreds.

Oh I understand. All they really need to do to is mention
Kronos was really behind what happened in the first film
and I'm a happy camper.

agreed, i enjoyed the first one because i felt it retained some essential elements from greek mythology that i didn't expect to see (persephone being an adulterer, i was surprised to see them actually dress that the gods were all ****es, considering the rating) but chris columbus must have been on autopilot for this one, it was just so bland visually, nothing was visceral or epic in anyway, particularly in how he interpreted medusa and hades, just seemed very...uncreative. i didn't read the books, so maybe thats how they were described. so basically, i hope they get a director whose more ambitious visually.

I liked the first movie(have not read the books yet), thought it was okay and would like the series to continue as long as it improves.

the second movie will bomb for sure unless the quality is way better than the first.

The problem is that the first movie was ****ing incompetently stupid. The lead was bad and the characters were dumb as posts.

They spend the whole movie looking for MARBLES! The movie is about a lightning thief but no one ever looks to find the lightning thief. Find the lightning thief and problem solved! Instead he just shows up and reveals himself at the end! LOL! STUPID!

This will never got off the ground unless its some DTV crap. No one saw the first movie.

The movie was lame and if it gets a sequel then any movie can.

i enjoyed it alot...it was so much better than clash of the titans..thats for sure

Yes, yes it would. I would love to see even half of what they do in the final battles on screen.

It did NOT under perform. It made more than the studio thought it would. Before release the studio said they'd make a sequel if it made over $200 million, which it did.

The last book felt like one BIG battle with little breaks to me. But I still love it, The Titan's Curse is my favourite.

The first one was bland and screwed up a lot of the more interesting stuff in the books (of which I'm a big fan; if people enjoy fantasy lit, I'd recommend them; they're the best kind of all-ages fiction).

As a MASSIVE, MET THE WRITER OF THE BOOKS, FAN of the books I have to say that this pisses me off in so many ways because the first movie was an absolutely horrible adaption and was a bastardization of what could have been an awesome new movie series. Too bad Fox got there hands on it and ****ed it up, even the writer wants nothing to do with the movies and he openly says that. He sold the rights and that was it. Not like Fox even asked for his opinion, if I recall correctly, for the script.

MEh I didn't the first one I have read the books and I like the series I just think they need to do something diffrent to make the 2nd movie better though.

I saw the first movie.I'll be going to the second movie when it comes out.
