Hi everyone, my dad just asked a good question and I don't know the answer. It would be great if someone out there knew the answer.

If the UK joined the European Union in 1973, why do they not use euro?

(I'm from Australia, so please forgive my ignorance)

If you use google you can find the answer to that. The Euro is not an obligation for member states and had to do with a treaty that required a referendum. If you are interested, look it up. The information is quite easy to find.

Because the economy is already a stinker, don't want Euro funny money messing it up even more

When the UK joined the EU the British Pound was pretty dominate at the time.

What Scourge and two face said, just because we are part of the EU we dont have to have the pound, and too many british people dont want it, plus its a good thing for pm's to use around voting time 'oh we dont want the euro, go us, were just like you, i had a big mac for dinner last night and shop at tesco, us MP's are so normal'

Or something like that.
