Personal Argument: TITANIC vs L.A CONFIDENTIAL

Okay, there's been this ongoing argument between a group of my mates for a while now. Everytime we go out on the lash, this debate crops up causing hassle for everyone.

Which film is better Titanic or L.A Confidential?

My chums seem to think that Titanic, because it was based on a real event, and had a 'real' authentic plot and premise and had the powerful climatic act is the far superior film.

Me and another mate believe that LA.C is a far superior film featuring a better plot, more tension, better acting, better direction and a relevant, coherent conclusion.

We've argued this to the point of insanity.

L.A Confidential owns Titanic. Titanic is a chick movie with a boat thrown in.

L.A Confidential will win hands down. That film has an edge that Titanic could only dream of. They are however very different films. While both have the drama element Titanic (for me) lacked any real passion. They could have focused on a different set of characters in that film. L.A C was just more aggresive and compelling to watch.

The Drama in Titanic was soap opera in style. All Billy Zane needed was a mustache to twirl.

While both were high quality films, the 1997 Academy Award for Best Picture truly deserved to L.A. Confidential.

I don't understand people's hate for Titantic. I think its probably because of the movie's success. But, anyway, I vote L.A. Confidential since its my cup of tea.

I don't hate Titanic it just never hot the spot for me. I don't think it deserved the success it got. I don't mean it should be put away for ever and ignored as I do like parts of this movie. The violinists at the end..very cool. But for the most part it was the boat that stole the show...which is OK if you like watching boats sink.

how so?... did it win for any acting, i dont think so, it won for directing, writing and other technical stuff and the score was amazing, it helped the movie. If it won for all of these things, then how could you not give it the best pic oscar?

You'd be amazed at the actual number of films to actually accomplish winning these three in a full sweep.

Yeah if you just give it top marks in all categories logic says it will get the best picture too. But that's the academys opion. I would of passed on the score at least. Give the credit it deserved but I did not think it should have swiped across the whole board. Lord of the rings tied I think with Titanic but that to me felt unfair as LoTR deserved more. Just my opion.

yeah, its like that same bulls**t the academy pulled when Brokeback Mountain and Crash were nominated. Ang won for Best Director but Crash won best movie. Stupid.

Never saw Brokeback go ahead and call me a homophobe, don't care. But, Crash deserved it.
