Marvel’s cross promotion is easily one of the coolest aspects of their new films, giving filmmakers a sandbox full of toys in which to play. “Hulk” director Louis Leterrier almost got to play with the coolest.

“The University at the end [where Banner meets with Samuel Sterns] is Columbia University. Columbia University in the Marvel world, especially in the ‘Spider Man’ world, is Empire State University,” the director explained. “I wanted some kind of shot where you’re like, ‘Oh my god. Is that Peter Parker?’ That would have been fun!”

Unfortunately for Leterrier, crossovers begin and end with the properties Marvel has total control of – no matter how hard you ask. And “Spider-Man” all its many names, places, and stories therein, belong to Sony. But while he quickly realized that he wouldn’t be able to get Tobey Maguire (no matter how much he wanted to), Leterrier thought a compromise could be reached. No dice, he sighed.

“I just wanted to call it Empire University – to treat it like a coherent world,” he recalled. “And Sony, who has the rights to Spidey, didn’t want us to do that. It was a small thing but something we couldn’t do.”

Still, Leterrier is such a fan of comics, and the new combined Marvel universe in particular, he’s already jealous of the director who one day, he knows, will get to do what he couldn’t.

“Marvel is pretty good at doing their own movies and so eventually the studios will allow them to chaperone the production of [all of them],” he said. “Years from now you’ll see Peter Parker meeting Bruce Banner.”

Lots of characters could have been in it. Why make a post about that?

Peter Parker's identity is still largely unknown though so it wouldn't make sense?

So? Spider-man belongs to sony. He is one of the less likely crossovers.

I think he was saying the AUDIENCE would be the ones thinking, 'hey, is that Peter Parker," not Banner.

Like there would be a geeky kid with a camera by a spider exhibit, kind of like how Batman '89 had the reporter with horn rimmed glasses in the scene where Knox shows up at the paper, right before they show him the picture of the large bat rendition.

On set the guy was actually even referred to as Clark.

Kudos to M Leterrier for the attempt. At least we've got Daily Bugle trucks in the Hulk video game.

Really? I didn't know about that.
Well i'm off to watch B89 now :p

oh well. it would been a nice easter egg to see. of course there's chance we might see Captain America?

As Marvel gets more control of their characters/movies.
I believe one day Spider-Man and others will make cameo appearances.
I don't see the harm of Peter Parker walking past Bruce Banner in Manhattan.
:bh: :spidey:

Does anyone know when Spidey reenters Marvel's possession, or did they foolishly give Sony some type of deal where Sony has it indefinitely as long as they are making movies with Spidey in it?

Of note here, though, is that Thomas Jane (the Original Punisher) had a brief cameo in Spider-Man 2 (when Mary Jane has become a runaway bride). So you could argue that Spider-Man movies take place in the same continuity as Punisher (and any Dr. Strange movies that come about).

from what i hear now, no we won't see the cap in person. im going to see the movie tomorrow at 12 noon here. :cwink:

All I get from this is that Sony is full of money grabbing ass holes who don't give a **** about the fans.

Well, even more than before that is.

If Peter Parker would have just so much as walked by I would explode from a geekgasm.

is Robert Downey Jr. making an appearance as Stark? Any news on Hulkbuster equipment?

sorry if i am way behind the curve on this.

People would know it's Peter not Banner knowing who he is.

I can't wait until Marvel gets the rights to X-Men (not going to happen for a long time) & Spidey (also not for a long time but probably shorter than X-Men) back.

I'd like to know as well.

Actually, the Thomas Jane thing was only a rumor based on an extra who resembled him, but it was confirmed to be false. However, what des this have to do with Dr. Strange?

i definatly dont blame Sony... as they are probably gonna replace toby maguire as spiderman, so why bother having his face appear in hulk?

however sony DID sound pretty greedy...lol

Actually it's nto just a rumor. The extra was put there by Rami to look like Punisher.

That scene in S-M2 where JJJ and Hoffman are talking about potential names for Doc Ock.

"Dr. Strange?"
"I like that . . . but it's taken!"
