I've heard people say "....there's no money to be made if everybody felt great." And they're right.

If everybody was cured, if everyone felt healthy, then the pharmaceutical companies would be out of business. Period. Therefore, a large number of ppl around the world feel that these companies, who claim to be looking for the cures for things like Cancer, AIDS, and even the common cold, are doing nothing more than feeding us b.s statements. If they cured AIDS, the Common Cold and found a cure for Cancer, billions upon billions of dollars, would suddenly cease to flow into the health care system which ultimately leads into the pockets of the pharmaceutical giants.

So my question is this: Do you think that scientists are really trying to cure these diseases, knowing what's at stake, and how much money will be lost if they do?......

i totally agree with you, i honestly don't believe they're doing anything to cure aids or cancer.

hmmm... i wondered why my medication tasted like cheep jellybeans...

What was that Chris Rock joke? "Superman can't walk?! Thats like saying Aquaman drowned in the bathtub."

100% percent agree with you. The drug business probally realized this during the eradication of polio which put out a lot of pharmacutical companies. You know every once in a while, some news stations report scientists making medical breakthroughs in cures for major diseases yet they seem to never hit the mainstream media and dissapear from the radar pretty quickly..

AIDS yes. Cancer and the cold are very much impossible to cure right now.

How did they find the cure for AIDS in that Chappelle Show sketch, again? Put four of the richest men on Earth in one room, and give them all AIDS?

that's actually not a half bad idea... if somebody slipped the president (for example) a little bit of aids, i can guarantee he'd be cured within months, proving that their is, in fact, a cure.

I have absolute faith in the medical researchers doing their best to find a cure for AIDS or cancer, because I believe that those are fights worth fighting. My opinion on the pharmaceutical corporations is that it is their job to influence doctors on a particular bias about societal behaviour.

If your doctor believes that something is wrong with you, he'll prescribe you medication, and the drug companies will benefit. We are definitely over medicating our children, though I believe that trend is on the decline after a peak a few years ago. Just because your kid is hyper doesn't mean he has ADHD and needs to take Ritalin. It means you should stop letting him have an energy drink at breakfast.

You know, that's actually not a bad idea. Anyone want to assist me in this scheme? :woot:

Sorry. That means I'd first have to contract AIDS, and then give it to a guy or two. Neither of those two prospects interests me in the slightest.

You could just carry around a needle full of AIDS-infected blood...

What also strikes me is that now that we're in the 21st century, you'd think that with all the inventions that have been made to make out lives easier, things like stress and depression would be at an all time low; but it's not. People are popping stress/anti-depressants more so now than ever before-we all want a quick fix to life problems, i know, but are we really depressed, or are we just being told we are...?

My friend asks this question all the time. What is the difference between being Depressed, & just being sick of it all.

There is none, imo. People just think that popping a pill will wipe away all their problems, and the drug companies are just capitalizing on this type of thinking.

I think for the most part, that we live in a toxic society. I mean, pollution for one, and look at all this technology crap, it's everywhere. It's not uncommon for kids to be on computers, playing videogames, watching tv, listing to an Ipod, It can't be healthy. Plus all the and the food. Like milk for example, Isn't it still legal for farmers to stick growth hormones in the cattle still? Depression only really seems to effect well developed countries. I read somewhere that it's one of the most debilating "disease" in...developed countries. :/

Why Cure a disease when you can create a thousand different drugs that will stop symptoms? Its the American way!

Cancer is a highly complex disease with many causes and the AIDS virus has proven to be incredibly fast in its ability to evolve, so neither is an easy disease to cure.

Progress is being made and if a real cure were ever developed the Pharms would make untold billions, so its within their best interest to find cures.

Not to take the thread too far off topic with an issue we've discussed to death already but...would you want to cure AIDS and cancer? Think about it before you answer.

I remember reading somewhere that a cure for AIDS would be developed in the next 5-10 years, because they were going to do something with an anti-virus or something.

And then I read another one where they were genetically modifying bacteria to replicate itself on bad blood cells and boost your immune system. It was some Canadian study, if that helps at all. But can someone please search it up?

What are you saying. Sometimes when you get AIDS, you get cancer. So attack AIDS first. I think maybe one reason theyre not curing AIDS is because Africa is so under developed and so over populated. It would just become MORE populated with people that can barely work because of lack of education of anything.

My attack plan:

Tell the Africans that if they want a cure, they have to go to school, then give them the cure.

Surely those pharmaceutical companies have thought of this.

did you know that anti-depressants cause sexual side effects

"Unfortunately, one major side effect of most antidepressant medications is sexual dysfunction, with reported rates as high as 70 percent in some studies.

This presents an extremely problematic situation, not only because of the distress and discomfort associated with sexual dysfunction, but also because evidence suggests that more than half of all patients will stop taking their antidepressants because of this side effect"

theres always a god damn catch with medication! but they dont tell you this when they give it to you

Yes, i do know this. My doctor prescribed me anti-depressants when I told him I couldn't fall asleep. The only "dysfunction" is that it takes forever to get an orgasm. I'm off them now, but it was frustrating and kinda cool. This chick I was with at the time complained about her sore hand. So anti-depressants have their pro's and cons.

Pros:
Last longer
Feel better mentally

Cons:
*****y girlfriend
Sometimes frustrating.

BTW, it was a wrongful diagnosis.
