Now i live in the city of brotherly love and it would be awesome if they filmed future Batman films here in the city. Now Nolan having his Batman films in Chicago was alright but i feel that Philly would give a darker look to Gotham City then Chicago. I mean we have the cool sky scrapers and all that here in the city and the neighborhoods for the most part are jacked up and could look real like a Gotham City neighborhood. So what do you people think?

I don't want any real world cities used for Gotham at any point post-Nolan. Gotham has a unique character that can't be properly captured with an existing city.

I kind of still wish that Gotham had a bit of gothic twist to it like it does in the comic books.

i like chicago as the city for Gotham but if they filmed in different cities it would be okay, would give a mixture.

Now you do realize that Nolan has been using real cities to film correct?

didn't they say that Liverpool was rumoured to be used at some point?

Yes, hence why I said post-Nolan. Beyond the design of Two-Face and the monastery from BB, I haven't cared for any of Nolan's visual decisions, especially the use of Chicago as Gotham. I don't expect him to suddenly change his aesthetic approach in a third film, but I hope the next director gives us something closer to a comic book world.

To each his own, I like how Nolan makes Batman more tangible in a more real world setting in a modern day Gotham.

Philadelphia can be used and with technology turned into a gothic Gotham City like in the comics. You know how many bad neighborhoods we have in this city that can look gothic.

The Chi and Big Apple are still more appropriate choices if you want to go Gothic.

I have, but Chi/NYC still have more prominent areas of gothic structures. If I'm not mistaken, they're the top 2 in the country.

Philly has gothic structures too not to mention most of the arear in the city is in bad shape. Cause of crime and poverty. Perfect for a Gotham City. Last i check that is what makes Gotham City crime and poverty.

You're misunderstanding. I'm not saying Philly doesn't have it. I'm saying Chi and NYC have it more.

I love Philly's gothic architecture, and I think they could certainly shoot some scenes there and blend it with Chicago just fine if they wanted to. But Chicago has this beautiful mix of gothic AND art-deco architecture (It is the "architecture capital of the country," after all), which is already the perfect fit for Gotham, imo, since I associate art-deco with Batman just as much as I do the gothic look. Possibly due to the "period" vibes it creates, as art-deco was in its heyday right around the time Batman was created.

Meh i would just like it if they filmed the whole movie in Philly. Besides Burton did his Batman movies in Canada and his Gotham was great. So does not have to be filmed in Chicago and New York.

See, I didn't like Burton's Gotham because it all looked so darn "soundstage-y." The production design was great for a cartoonish fantasy world, but I prefer my Batman in something resembling the real world as much as possible. Chicago's perfect for that. Philly would be too, but as Crook said, just not as good.

Well i think the people would not complain if they filmed the whole movie in philly.

Possibly, but I'm not sure if/when we'll ever find out. I'm certainly not gonna be complaining about Chicago any time soon...;)

Now, I agree that Philly can be very Gotham-ish, but that picture's really not the best way to illustrate it. Just looks like a city at night to me.

I mean, I just googled "Chicago night" and this is one of the first things to come up:

Even that random pic looks more Gotham-y to me. But you don't need to illustrate it - I've been to Philly several times. Love the architecture. It would make a fine Gotham. :)

As a New Yorker I'm pretty bias about the whole thing considering we even call our own city Gotham. Chicago does a good job though.
