I heard that Philip Seymour Hoffman was offered the role of the Penguin in TDK, but hadn't made a decision yet. I also heard that Russell Crowe was offered the role of Ra's Al Ghul in Begins, but turned that down, and was recently offered the role of Harvey Dent in TDK, but also turned that down. Is there any truth to these rumors?

who knows? thats kind of the ass kicker about them being rumors.

I am pretty sure Nolan already said no to Hoffman playing the Penguin. Hell I don't even think Penguin is going to make it into the movie. Time will tell though.

ESQ: The Internet thinks you're casting Philip Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin.

CN: [Laughs.] Not true. I'd be more excited to have Philip Seymour Hoffman in the film than to have the Penguin. There are certain characters that are easier to mesh with the more real take on Batman we're doing. The Penguin would be tricky.

I still don't understand how he'd think Penguin is hard. If he's thinking about Danny Devito's Penguin than he needs to get that Penguin out of his head. Go back to the old businessman Penguin. The socialite Penguin competing for complete control of Gotham.

^ That's Penguin. Not the webbed hand, fish-eating freak that lives in the sewers.
Thats so true. I'm confused by Nolan's answer since i had the impression a villain like Penguin would be right up his alley. I'm interested to see his 'realistic' take on the character as i'm almost sure it'd be better than Burton's.

My thoughts exactly.

Great, Nolan is going to ruin this movie.

Theres a good possibility that a little chat between Nolan and Bob Hoskins would change that.

I wasn't. I was saying he's got a perception of who The Penguin is from "Batman Returns." He needs to get Burton's Penguin out of his head and go back to the old comics.

Burton made Penguin into a homicidal freak. This persona is more associated with The Joker, Killer Croc, or Two-Face, not Penguin.

yes that comment from nolan EXTREMLEY PISSES ME OFF Penguin is the Perfect Realistic Character to put in a Batman film!! DAMMIT NOLAN!!

Maybe Nolan isn't showing his hand.

He's not the kind of man to reveal his film to you, I mean look at how close he's keeping the Joker's arc to his chest. Most of the information we've heard has come from Ledger.

Nolan's throwing us off with that quote, it makes no sense at all. And if you want to be precise he dosn't even rule out the possibility, he just says it WOULD be tricky.

I'm pretty sure the Penguin WILL be in TDK.

Why do you say that?

Its sarcasm to the remarks questioning Nolan's response about the Pengiun character.

First of all, based on the results of BB, I trust Nolan more than any other Director with the franchise...at this point in time and will do so until I view TDK.

Second, I have no choice but to trust Nolan at this point.

This is the reason why Nolan has kept this production clam shut so far, because of all the nitpicking and the overspeculation of every remark and rumor.

Yes, the Penguin isn't exactly impossible to bring to screen in a 'real' way. It just requires some imagination. I loved Burton's take on Penguin, but mob related businessman Penguin/Cobblepot would really fit in nicely in Nolan's world.

As for Russel Crowe as Ra's Al Ghul.....BWAHAHAHAHA!!

If that is true, I think it worked out for the best.

I loved the fact that Ducard/Ra's was also Darkman!

Some articles say Bale is well liked on the set of Yuma while many resent Crowe's attitude. I saw one group photo for the movie and Bale still looks skinny so should he be starting on his workout regime already?
March is not too far away.

Didn't Daniel Day Lewis turn down the role of Ra's as well? He would have been great.

i'm a little worried about that too i hope he will get in good shape for the dark knight but the time is running out and now he has to bulk and to train his muscles back
