Nothing personal but besides the first couple of episodes what was so amusing about seeing the turtles make the villians look like buffoons. When I first saw that crappy cartoon I thought it was a comedy because practially every episode that I saw had little to no action. 95% of the episodes consisted of the following scenario:

Shredder or Krang come up with an idiotic plan to finish off the turtles. The turtles kick Beebop and Rocksteady's ass. Shredder or Krang's plan backfires. The end.

On the other hand the most recent cartoon is considerably better in almost every way except the theme. That's the only thing I liked about the original cartoon.

i think the levels are free-roam but it's said that there are 9 different environments. i don't know if that means they'll have to load the environment everytime ala GTA3 or not, though i doubt it. next gen consoles should be able to handle 9 different environments without having to load them everytime...

You can say similar stuff about any cartoon. I think it's important to view any cartoon in the context of when it came out and what it did at the time. And, in that sense TMNT was definately not crappy. It was a slightly more kiddy version of a fantastic comic book, but it tried to hit all the same themes that the comic book did.... and it succeeded.

If you didn't see enough action in it... it was probably good a thing. There was plenty of action in lesser cartoons that didn't survive to this day (C.O.P.S., Inhumanoids, etc.). There was something special about TMNT.

I never said there weren't many other crappy cartoons in the 80s. The only action cartoons I liked were Transformers and GI Joe. I was just bothered with the idea that TMNT was considered to be an action cartoon when in reality it had about as much action as Dinosaucers(Pure Crap) and was just as hokey as that idiotic cartoon.

You're suggesting that it is cool for a comedy cartoon that has very little action to be promoted as an action cartoon.

There was something special about the comic. That's why the new cartoon and movie were almost completely different in every way. What was so unique about the original cartoon? Those two examples you pointed out aren't the best ones either. Inhumaniods had a terrible air time(early sunday morning) and was way to disgusting for kids to enjoy. The problem with C.O.P.S. was the toyline didn't generate enough money to justify continuing the series. In the 80s 90% of the action cartoons were created for the purpose of selling a toyline. If the kids didn't like the toys then the series would die out. Transformers, TMNT, He-Man, Robotech, Thundercats, GI Joe, and Silverhawks all had unique toys. These cartoons lasted for more then one season and their toys sold well. There was nothing unique about the C.O.P.S. toyline so kids ignored it, the seires died out and the rest is history. A final thing to note is that TMNT didn't have to compete with any of the above cartoons except C.O.P.S. All of those cartoons had died out when TMNT hit the air. I would have liked to see how TMNT would have done if it came out in 1984 during the transformers, He-Man, and GI Joe craze. There's no way it would have been as successful with that competition.

I don't really disagree, Theweepeople. But I look at it this way:
You say you liked G.I. Joe, right? BTW, G.I. Joe was actually my favorite toys/toon/comic (I couldn't afford Transformers). But I've always thought (even at the age of 9) that the G.I. Joe cartoon was utter complete crap compared to the brilliant comic book. Obviously, you saw something in it. It's not "crap" to you. But in fact, TMNT the cartoon was actually more faithful to the comic book than G.I. Joe was.

Don't be makin blanket statments about TMNT! Only blanket statements about Michael Bay are allowed! t:
