A highly mysterious project from Pixar Animation which will come out June 12th, 2009.

Not easy to guess what the movie is about with a title like that, but obviously this means no Toy Story 3 in 2009

Up (June 12, 2009)

Pete Docter, the Pixar lifer who made "Monsters Inc.," and co-director Bob Peterson are preparing this "coming-of-old-age story" about a seventysomething guy who lives in a house that "looks like your grandparents' house smelled." He befriends a clueless young Wilderness Ranger and gets into lots of alter kocker (ComingSoon.net note: we have no idea what this means) altercations. Says Pixar: "Our hero travels the globe, fights beasts and villains and eats dinner at 3:30 in the afternoon."

Sounds weird, but interesting.

alter kocker? Sounds like a really strange movie, but in Pixar's hands I'm sure it'll be great.

Yeah, it sounds weird but million times more interesting than "a group of animals escaping a zoo" or something like that. :)

This sounds really cool! I can't wait to see some of the animation and find out who are lending their voices to the film. As with most Pixar films, it's going straight to my "Must See List".

Is it a CGI remake of the Russ Meyer film?

I would rather have an Incredibles sequel:o:up:

Yeah...

I want an Inredibles sequel, too.:csad:

Maybe they'll make this 'Wilderness Ranger' something of an Indiana Jones archtype?

Details Revealed About Pixar's Up

Pixar's newest animated feature film, Up, will be written and directed by Monsters, Inc.'s Pete Docter, along with writer Bob Peterson (Finding Nemo), Pixar helmer Brad Bird (Ratatouille) told SCI FI Wire. The movie, about which little is known, is set for release in 2009.

"I think it's a really great, emotional, whimsical [story]," Bird said in an interview while promoting the upcoming DVD release of Ratatouille. "It's not like any other Pixar film."

Up will follow Wall*E, which is due for release on June 27, 2008. Rumor has it that Up will tell the story of a 70-year-old man who teams up with a wilderness ranger to fight monsters. Although the story will reportedly be aimed at a more mature audience, it will still have the typical Pixar appeal. "I think kids will like it," Bird said.

Pixar's upcoming animated film, Wall*E, also marks a departure: It's the studio's first science fiction movie, about a robot in the far future.

"Wall*E is not like any other Pixar film," Bird said. "Ratatouille is very different from Cars. Cars is different from The Incredibles. One of the wonderful things about Pixar is they're always looking for a different way to tell a story. And they are passion-driven projects. ... These films are more emotionally invested in from the word go. And they feel that that kind of passion to see it get made is what's going to carry it through." —Cindy White

Pixar's "Up" Is Don Quixote?

Upcoming Pixar reports that the upcoming 2009 Pixar animated film "Up" looks to be based on one of history's most famous stories - "Don Quixote".

Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra's classic novel follows a man who has read so many stories that he becomes convinced he is a knight and sets off, along with his earthy squire Sancho Panza, in search of adventure. They begin with his attack on windmills that he believes to be ferocious giants.

For almost six decades the Walt Disney Company has been trying to turn Don Quixote into an animated feature film, but without success due to the almost episodic nature of the story.

"Monsters, Inc." director Pete Docter helms the project which will get a release on June 12th 2009.

Why call it "Up" if it's about Don Quixote?

So its about a crazy old man who thinks everything is a monster, and the young ranger helps him because they are friends?

Well, that's how they almost describe the movie at least:

Directed by Pete Docter, Up is coming-of-old-age story about a seventy-something guy who lives in a house that "looks like your grandparents' house smelled." He befriends a clueless young Wilderness Ranger and gets into lots of alter kocker altercations. Pixar previous said, "Our hero travels the globe, fights beasts and villains and eats dinner at 3:30 in the afternoon."

From the Academy Award®-nominated team of director Pete Docter ("Monsters, Inc.") and co-director Bob Peterson comes "Up," a comedic adventure taking off (and lifting spirits) in summer 2009. Carl Fredricksen spent his entire life dreaming of exploring the globe and experiencing life to its fullest. But at age 78, life seems to have passed him by, until a twist of fate (and a persistent 8-year old Wilderness Explorer named Russell) gives him a new lease on life. "Up" takes audiences on a thrilling journey where the unlikely pair encounter wild terrain, unexpected villains and jungle creatures. When seeking adventure next summer -- look "Up."

alter kocker?

Alter kocker is a Yiddish phrase. An alter kocker is a man who can no longer do something that he once could. He's an old guy, over the hill, past his prime.
In literal terms, an alter kocker is from German and means “old defecator.” It doesn't sound very nice in translation, but it's a common expression, and sounds gentler and more humorous in Yiddish conversation. Its sense is usually of someone who is inept at whatever he is trying to do. It often has to do with forgetfulness. As soon as somebody says hello to a man but he can't remember his name, the other guy says, “You alter kocker.” The other guy can't admit to himself that he's not too well liked, or not worth remembering. So he blames you.

don quixote is one of my favorite books. if it really is based on this, that just makes me so much more excited.

Another interesting film. Can't wait to see a teaser.

This one doesn't seem too interesting...Plus it's not based on original material, either. I hope Pixar isn't losing it...Well, I guess I'll have to wait for a teaser to judge a better more.
