Based in official informations, rumors and bets, I put together something similar to what I think the movie's Plot Outline will be. Here's it:

Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) must face the repercussions of revealing to the world he's Iron Man. Saying he's a super-hero is one thing. Being up to challenge is another completelly different thing. Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) is distant from him, and, because of that, Tony engajes a relationship with his new secretary, Natasha Romanov (Scarlett Johanson), while Iron Man works along his best friend, James Rhodes (Don Cheadle) and SHIELD, led by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to fight menaces to the world. All those missions make Tony really stressed and overcharged. To make things worse, rival bussinessman Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell), a criminal mastermind, gains acess to Tony's equipment, and starts selling it to criminal organizations arround the world, raising questions about Iron Man's true motivations and putting the public against him. To seal the deal, Hammer hires an convict russian arms dealer called Ivan (Mickey Rourke) and gives him the Whiplash armor so he can make Tony busy while he searches for something Tony's father, Howard Stark (Tim Robbins) created in World War II. Something that can redefine the Marvel Universe if revealed. And he'll have help. Natasha reveals herself as a double (Or would that be triple?) agent, the deadly Black Widow. To help Tony against this triple-danger, Rhodes suits up and becomes War Machine.

But will he and Iron Man be up to such a challenge?

:woot:

What do you think?

Good theory, and it sounds plausible.

Yeah just like the reports of Jameson and the symbiote background showing up in SM3. It's all speculation. And it's kinda cliche for my liking. I hope they mix it up a little. And I hope Rourke doesn't become a gimmick. I mean if some other armored dude just started tearing **** up wouldn't they just leave it to armed forces to take care of that as opposed to Iron Man. I mean if we are going for realism and all. That's the universe Favreau gave us.

Iron Man wipped out an terrorist circle armed with HIS weapons. A guy with a more advanced suit than Tony's wouldn't have the US military as a problem.

Yeah. He took Iron Monger on by himself, he's built more powerfully advanced suits. War Machine for starters....

They were terrorist weapons though. It's not like the terrorists were usings the Jericho missles against him. Just old fashioned guns/tanks. Besides those F-22's nearly annihilated Iron Man.

Whiplash is piloted by a ruthless man, has combined technology of Stark AND Hammer, and, if it goes as I think, the government would be against IM. He'd be all by himself (And, later on, with War Machine).

Sounds like pieces of a couple of stories, one of them being part of the 'Armor Wars' plotline so...:woot:

I forgot the face

Sounds great to me. That is a nice summation of all the "info" that we've heard so far. I would be shocked if the film was terribly different then your outline. I love how it appears that Captain America's origin will be referenced in this film (much like it was in The Incredible Hulk).

That plot outline sounds pretty solid to me, I say go with it.

Everytime I see somebody screaming 'demon in a bottle', 'demon in a bottle' 'demon in a bottle' I feel like I want to explode, as though demon in a bottle is the only damn Iron Man story in existence or something.

Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) must face the repercussions of revealing to the world he's the Iron Man. Revealing he's a super-hero is one thing. Being up to the challenge is another completelly different thing. Virginia "Pepper" Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) is distant, and, because of that, Tony engajes a relationship with his new secretary, Natasha Romanov (Scarlett Johanson), while Iron Man works alongside his best friend, James "Rhodey" Rhodes (Don Cheadle) and SHIELD, led by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to fight menaces to the world. In one of those missions, Tony arrests an russian inventor and arms dealer called Dr. Ivan Vanko (Mickey Rourke), who swears revenge on him. Meanwhile, rival bussinessman Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell), a criminal mastermind, gains acess to Tony's equipment thanks to Natasha, who's actually the double agent and supervillain Black Widow, and starts selling it to criminal organizations arround the world, raising questions about Iron Man's true motivations and putting the public against him, what makes Tony stressed and overcharged. To make things worse, Vanko escapes prison and steals one of Tony's ARK reactors, sold in black market by Hammer, and using it to energize deadly whips, becomes the supervillain Whiplash. Whiplash eventually fights Iron Man and it's defeated, raising Hammer's attention. Hammer gives Vanko acess to his fortune and laboratories, which Vanko uses to create an advanced armor and become the Crimson Dynamo to fight Iron Man equally. Hammer's real objective is steal something Tony's father created during World War II. Something that can change the course of history forever. And he'll have technology by his side, as he creates advanced Combat Drones to help him fight Iron Man and SHIELD. Tony can't face this threat alone, and, because of that, Rhodes suits up and uses the powerful War Machine armor to help Tony defeat Hammer, Vanko, Romanov and their army of robots.

^Nice, but I rather doubt Vanko will be an inventor. Looks pretty much like a Russian mafia badass or merc/assassin to me. What is beef w/ Tony will be is anyone's guess.

How the hell old is Tony Stark supposed to be? His father was around in World War II? I know that they said it in the movie and you didn't make that up, but its just seems odd. I guess we can assume Howard Stark was old when Tony was born?

Well, lets say Howard Stark was about 30 in WWII times? (1942). That means he was born around 1912, meaning if he were alive today he'd be 97. Most 40 year old don't have 97 year old parents. Even if he was 20 around WWII that's still 87. I know, a bit off topic for this thread, but it's something that needs to be said. : )

I always assumed Tony Stark was meant to be 35 in Iron Man (2008). Thus that would make him born in 1973. Let's assume his father was straight out of college when he worked for the Super Soldier/Manhattan Project in 1944, so he was only 22. That's a 29 year difference, so that means Howard Stark was 51 when he had Tony. Remember Howard was a wealthy inventor, and like Tony he probably had many lady friends, so he was in no rush to settle down. Besides we all know that older rich guys marry hot young women, so it's entirely conceivable that a 50 year old Howard Stark finally marries a 27 year old wife after a lifetime as a billionaire playboy (or after a failed childless marriage, or two). We can then assume that Tony's mother died tragically while she was young. There you go, problem solved in a very reasonable fashion.

Actually Maria Stark(Tony's mom) died in the same auto accident as his father did. They referenced it in the slide show in the first film. It goes without saying that his mother was much younger than his father. Also, if you read the novelization, Howard Stark built his entire company into one of the premier military contractors of WWII. So I'd add at least 10 years to your guess of Howard's age. Probably makes Howard around his early 30's in WWII and early 60's when Tony was born.
