Yeah but CR is marketed to be 1 of those movies that just smacks you in the face with vey little warning. Many people are going to be positively surprised thats why, the movie is being slightly downplayed but things will pick up a bit.

The problem I see with this, is that typically Bond movies are designed or promoted as big events. And from what I've seen, it's been that way since the beginning.

Casino Royale is really the only popcorn movie of the holiday season. I feel like Sony should be pushing that angle, but they aren't.

Maybe they should but as you obviously know, a different approach has been taken with the Bond movies. The producers know that Bond will fill seats but like I said maybe, they want this movie to really slap viwers in the face by playing things down a little, with promoting this monster of a movie.

I agree with Vile, though you start an ad campaign too early, you get the reaction of people becoming overwhelmed and pretty much getting tired of how pervasive its advertising is. I call this "Snakes on a Plane syndrome" we all knew it was going to be trash but everyone wanted to see it, but by the time the movie came out, werent you tired of hearing about that movie? I think the time is now, and the ad campagin should be in full swings as of today, its pretty much a month away and its time to get people's minds on the movie, but not to over do it.

You're wrong. The reason the movie didn't make more money is because most people weren't interested in actually seeing or paying to see the movie at all outside of making fun of it and having fun with the ad-campaign.

The marketing for Snakes on A Plane and the internet buzz was all it really had.

if they expect to make any money they are VERY MISTAKEN!!

Sony know what they're doing. Its James Bond for goodness sake, there's nothing to worry about. Wether people like it or hate it, the point of the matter is they'll still end up seeing the movie.

I'm not sure what Sony expects. There's this feeling in the back of my head that maybe they too are somewhat tentative about Craig's performance and weary of his criticisms and that's why they aren't blasting full-steam ahead.

Sony usually isn't a company to skimp out on the marketing either.

Well its finally here, marketing and promotion is everywhere. I've seen 4 different promotional tie-ins for this movie all over the radio and tv. Sony aren't messing around and its evident they're in control and know what they're doing......as I expected.

I saw a trailer tonight with a movie. Unfortunately it was with the Marine.

Show the trailer with the Departed, NOT with The Marine.

lol....

you saw the the marine:whatever: :woot:

I had a free Regal ticket.

My friends are Cena marks.

But I got to see the Casino Royale trailer for the first time on a big screen. I don't feel guilty about it.

Not especially.

Michael Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer would be in heaven with the pornographic amount of 'splosions.

Well the marketing has begun really. I was just logging into MySpace and saw an advertisement for Casino Royale. It's very smart since MySpace is a large internet community that is still growing everyday, so with millions of users on MySpace it'll get the word out.

I did see the Casino Royale trailer with the Gridiron Gang too. Yes, I'm just now seeing it, and I enjoyed the film a lot.

So Sony is definitely making the right move by having the Casino Royale banner/trailer on MySpace.

Well over here in the UK there's a damn CR car advert which is on basically every commercial break, so much so I' starting to get sick of the sight of it well apart from the fact that they have made the release date the 16th.

I was worried when there was no sign of the first TV spot for a while after its Lost premiere, but with at least 7 or 8 TV spots now in circulation, I think the marketing is going fine.

I agree that marketing has stepped up quite nicely, but would like a bit more because I'm still seeing more Happy Feet tv spots :dew:

It's stepped up some, but I still feel like they aren't pushing it hard enough.

I think Fox marketed Borat even stronger than Sony is for Casino Royale.

The marketing for CR is fine as it is. There's no need to go overboard, the world knows who Bond is, he is the man that needs no introduction. Marketing for this movie is as it should be.

They can't really merchandise this one, that's the problem. The other Bonds were good, but they also had that added extra of semi-fantasy/sci-fi to them with all the wacky gadgets and crazy villains. This is going back to its roots, which is more reality grounded.

I'm glad the promo is a slow burner, oversaturation ticks people off.

Borat was walking a fine line with the promotion IMO.

The print campaign has been great IMO, focussing on a CQ style, high fashion photoshoot.
