What are some books and authors, whether they be classic literature or just recent phenomenons, that you can't stand?

For me, the most obvious choice is the entire Twilight series. And anything Stephenie Meyer has ever written, period, if you even call what she does "writing". Thanks to her young girls are looking up to an emotionless Mary Sue who meets a creepy stalker who watches her when she sleeps and takes out her car battery so she can't see her friends (but it's okay because he's ~HAWT~ of course) and gets married and has a kid right out of high school. I don't know how I read 3 books of that crap.
And as for books that are actually thought of as good outside of the tweenage and creepy, lonely housewife range, Nectar in a Sieve bored the crap outta me. I know it's supposed to be eye-opening and make you realize that you take what you have for granted, but the entire freaking book was the main character complaining about how hungry and poor she was, which is sad and very real but makes me want to :bh:

Anyway, enough of my ranting. Your turn!

The Da Vinci Code and anything else by Dan Brown.

The Da Vinci Code and anything else by Dan Brown.

that's his most famous book and its not even my favorite of his. i actually prefer Digital Fortress and A&D to that one, maybe even Deception Point

Atlas Shrugged/The Fountainhead

Lord of the Rings trilogy

The Kite Runner was a great book... :csad:

I agree with that one. I can never get twenty pages into Fellowship of The Ring before putting it down out of sheer boredom.

Exactly, Ive read the entire first book, but felt no desire in continuing. The movies were well done, but I just can't get into the whole "Tolkien Universe". My loss I suppose.

Ive been meaning to read Kite Runner, heard a lot of good things about it.

Freaking Twilight, Gossip Girl (acclaimed teen series my behind! ), and The Clique.
I am so freaking sick of all of these cliche teen-y bop books. Twilight is like a bad fanfic (I read the first two chapters of the first book before I got sick of reading Meyer's perception of a love sick pre-teen), Gossip Girl just gives me a headache and The Clique makes Gossip Girl look like Little Women. (not really, but you get what I'm trying to say.)

I haven't read any of the recent popular novels, but I despised most of the "acclaimed" classic books I was made to read in high school, including The Red Pony, Old Man and the Sea, and Great Expectations.

Haha, everyone is saying "Twilight". I didn't even know that it was a book series before this movie came out. It all looked very horrible. I like vampire and vampire lore, but this seemed so lame.

Harry Potter. End of thread.
AMEN!

I read the first 2 books. I kept on reading because I thought it get better and it never did. I was about to pick up the third but I just didn't care anymore...and people tell me the 3rd is when it starts getting "good". :o
