Hi. I'm in the market for a good, reliable and affordable MP3 player. But considering that this is foreign territory to me, I seek your advice.

What would be the ideal brand/model?

I'm looking for an MP3 player with built-in FM tuner and voice recorder with at least 512MB capacity.

I was suggested a Creative MuVo and a Sony NWE507. What do you guys think?

Ipod probably is the best one out there, but I don't know if they come with an FM tuner.

Would you really have time to listen to anything on the radio if you have uploaded 30,000 songs?

I probably am talking to myself.

Hi War lord,

How are you?

The family, last time I talked with them, were great. But that was prior to the mass funerals and cancer treatments.

In Comp USA like on Saturday,my sister got an MP3 player that was $20 plus insurance so it tutrned out like $35.

You could always get an iPod and a buy an FM tuner.

Tiger Direct has a 1Gb MP3 player on sale for $30.00 I believe. I have a 512 Sanddisk with Am/FM Tuner and voice recorder and paid $70.00 for it at Best Buy.

ipods and all the extra accessories that you "have" to buy are way to expensive. I can get a regular sandisk 512 MB MP3 player that already has an arm strap, earphones, AM/FM receiver, Voice recorder and usb cable to transfer any type of audio and not even come close to the outragious price that ipod's are which come with nothing.

Though, im an iPod owner and I thought the same as you. I got a nano and my friend got a sansdisk like the one you described. My nano is still working perfectly while my friends isnt. There is somehting to be said about quality.

iPods come with "nothing"? They come with earphones, a carrying case and USB 2.0 cable for charging and file transfer and an adapter for their universal dock. I understand some folks dislike iPods but don't misrepresent them.

as far as sound quality and functionality nothing beats the Ipod Video.....NOTHING!.

Really depends what you're looking for here DM. I've had allllot of different MP3 players, and a few ipods... and to me, my greatest experience came from the iriver products I owned.

Yeah, they're a little more expensive and they're not upgradable in size, but again, it depends what you're looking for. If 1 or 2 gig's is suffice, then I wholeheartedly recommend them. They're small, they're easy to use, and the functions are perfect, and sound quality is great. They're also great for working out with, and everything you need is right out of the box. Plus the longevity of them is superb.

Of course, if you're looking for something with either a hd, or just more space... or at least upgradable, then you'll probably want an ipod. I wouldn't go with Creative or SanDisk... they're not really great MP3 players. Owned them both, didn't like them... sold 'em on eBay.

I've had my SanDisk now for 1 1/2 years and it's still going strong. I've just read a lot of crap about iPods and wasn't impressed with what I saw at Best Buy when I went to buy an MP3 player, but to each there own.

Hey, guys. Thanks for the input.

Sorry, War Lord. I logged off immediately after posting. Quitting time, head for home, play with the kid, you know the drill. Thanks for the links, anyway. Very insightful.

Ipod wouldn't work coz I need one that can interface with a Windows PC. And no, War Lord, I need the MP3 player to primarily record meetings and stuff so I won't be cramming 30000 songs in it. And the FM tuner is just a nice touch I'd like to have.

Any thoughts on Sony? Some have advised me against it, saying that Sony's strict policy makes it difficult to store music in its devices. Furthermore, transfer of files from the PC to the device requires a specific software and one can't simply drag and drop the files.

iPods DO work with Windows PC's.
