So I havent seen a thread on this over here, at least since it was aquired by Marvel. So here's a discussion thread for what I think is Bendis best book since Alias got cancled, rivaled only by USM. What do you guys think of it?

It's Icon and not Marvel per se, as I think it should (and probs has been) in miscellaneous, but whatever, I love this book. The latest issue was uncomfortably sexual, mind. That's not why I buy it, but i have the hardcover and all the other issues in comic form bar volume 2 issues #10, 11, 13, 14, 17 . So if anybody wants to swap for them, feel free to post on the swap thread (see my sig). thanx.

Icon is a Marvel imprint like Vertigo is DC. So, this is the perfect place to talk about it.

Anyway, i've always loved this book. From Retro Girl, to monkey butt sex. Definatly Bendis' best book.

I got into this late through trades but started buying the floppies as of last issue. Really this is for me is the defining bendis book. The noir style just feels right for his writing abilities and walker's origin was awesome! :word:

Picked up the first six books of volume two for £4 the other day so yay! :D

Are there any TPBs collected? My run through of Virtigo's finest is coming to a close, and I'd like to take a crack at some of Marvel's non mainstream books.

And remember, you can read it daily on Newsarama.

oh and "definitely". i know, i know. im annoying.

I got into the series through the hardcover at the beginning of the year. felt like blowing £20. it's good, but i wouldn't buy another hardcover.i then should've got SOME trades but had to have the originals.*sigh* Did noone else feel the latest issue was astep closer to porn? at least the monkey issue was funny. it's the first issue i'd be ashamed to let a girlfriend or friend read if they got into "lets humour him mode"

I actually started by reading the first 2 trades which I blind bought when I was first getting into Bendis' work through USM and Alias (which I also bought in trades first)...I've loved every issue of it so far myself. What are your guys' favorite arcs? I really dug Forever :o

yeah, ditto. I though who killed retro girl? was overhyped in comparison to later arcs. It only got better, for me. Although a couple were maybe hit n miss with the seperate issues. I'm loving the current powers stuff with all the powers.

I wrote much of the Powers section in wikipedia, although I think some passages have been heavily edited by now, even though my edits to change the way its set up and the explanations to the story that are gave are more or less there. Check it out:

Some of you guys should contribute. We need some definitive info put up

Actually not too much has been changed, I just don't recognise some of my own typing :o

Powers is like runaways it sells better in trade (even though runaways is digest format) They've also recently released an excellent hardcover and rereleased some of the earlier softcovers that went out of print.

I'm assuming you're UK from your knowledge of spaced

I've read Retro Girl, Supergroup, and Cosmic. I like them all and I'd like to read more. Which ones are the best?

Also, how is Bendis' other Image stuff? Worth getting or should I stick to more Powers books?

I get really, really annoyed at all the Law & Order cop-jackass cliches. Like the thing where the perp acts tough, but then the cop raises the voice or threatens him with - and man what career criminal would see this one coming - jail time, and the guy folds up like a dollar-store mattress. They do this in like five out of every four Powers comics.

Equally obnoxious - the whole "Being a superhuman is awesome on a plate, and **** everybody who isn't! Ha!" vein running through the series.

...I dont see that whole "being a superhuman is awesome" thing at all. Look at Deena right now. She's a superhuman, and is a total mess. I really don't see where you got that from AT ALL.

Way to spoil s**t for the new guy.

Well, like most things, it's not so much the outcome, but the getting there that's the fun. So, there's that at least.

*sigh* I guess.
It's just that I recently got back into comics, and Powers was just amazing, IMO.
But yeah, I'm sure there's more things to enjoy.
I'll be sure to pick up Roleplay and Little Deaths today :)

The like half-dozen monologues where one character or another explicitly says "Dude being normal is for losers, superpowers are awesome on a plate."

Some people pay hookers to kick them in the nutz, what's your point?
