Preacher Coming To HBO

realised this should be in dc forum, mods feel free to delete

When this news first came out a long while ago, I remember a lot of people were ****ting their pants over their excitement for this project. I wonder how they feel now if they've seen Ghost Rider.

I'm still cautiously optimistic. Someone asked at one of DC's NYCC panels whether Vertigo had any involvement in the series, and the response was:
Newsarama said:
Vertigo has no input on the HBO Preacher series. It is all Garth and HBO. (http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=102743)
So, really, you can't do too much better than having the creator's direct input. The thing might still spin out of control and get away from Ennis' vision, but I'm still optimistic. HBO's a good home for it, if Rome, Carnivale, Deadwood, etc. are any indication. People curse, kill, and maim to their heart's content in those shows.

Mark Steven Johnson, seriously, why do people keep giving this guy comic book properties?

Johnson promises that it'll be a word-per-word adaptation, and that he probably won't be directing any of the episodes, so there is hope. :o

you guys do know this was announce like 4 months ago, right?

Because he makes money with them. Ghost Rider made over $51 million dollars it's opening weekend, which was a record for President's day weekend. And Daredevil made over a $100 million. Add the worldwide box office takes and DVD sales, and these films made a lot of people a lot of money. And those people care about their money, not about whether they made a "good" movie or not. "Good" is relative and subjective anyway. If one movie makes $50 million dollars and another $500 million, which was the "better" movie? In some people's eyes, the second because more people liked it.

In any case, Mark Steven Johnson is PRODUCING this series, not writing or directing every single episode

Yes, but it's only recently that we've gotten anymore news about it. Sparse news, sure, but still something to rejuvenate interest in it.

Actually, the "old news" topic has me wondering if James Marsden is still supposed to be playing Jesse. Anyone hear anything about that? I like Marsden and all, but I don't think he's right for Jesse.

no, that was rumored when a film was in production, which was years ago, so I doubt he's still in place

it's doubtful anyone too well known will be involved since it's a series

I could see a somewhat well known person for Jesse as the star (not too famous, but recognizable), but other than that, I agree that most probably won't be famous (except for maybe smaller roles like Sheriff)

Since his career's in a nosedive at the moment I think the perfect person would be jared leto. He could pull it off and use this for a keifer sutherland style revival

^ Not bad. I'm still not sure if there is someone that I know I would back 100%. I do think an interesting choice would be Timothy Olyphant if he bulked up some.

Nose dive? LAWL! 30 Seconds to Mars is as popular as it has ever been, unfortunately. Theyre big amongst the emo crowd and such. Acting wise, he has some roles coming up including that movie about John Lennon's killer.

I could see Timothy Olyphant making a great Jesse.

Timothy Olyphant is a god amongst men. I seriously would go gay for that dude, figuratively speaking.

All the more reason for him to be Jesse. He doesn't even need Genesis to spontaneously change your sexual preference.

Too bad he's playing Hitman or something, the guy needs some recognition, he was easily the best part of The Girl Next Door.

Yeah, he was great in that (which was itself surprisingly not horrendous).

It's too bad Emile Hirsch is just sinking lower and lower these days. He started out in some good indie movies, then he did The Girl Next Door, and now... Alpha Dog? Seriously, Emile?

:(
