Anyone interested in a Predator 3? I thought Predators was 'ok' but my favorites are Predator and Predator 2 and I really love the franchise (as well as Alien franchise too).

What are your thoughts? I would like to see a Predator 3 called Predator 3 set in the city again like Predator 2.

I would like to see a follow-up to Predators.

Or something inbetween. Maybe a city in ruins on the jungle planet, something that blends the two together.

There are many ways to do this. Either set in far back in time. Imagine Predators vs Samurais/Cowboys/Pirates/Knights or whatever.
Or it could be way into the future, maybe even have humans assaulting their homeplanet?

I only like the first Predator movie. I'm still waiting for a Predator vs Mr. Bean movie.

Which reminds me there are like three Predator threads going now, couldn't they be merged? We have the original Predators thread, the Predators sequel thread and now this one, a hypothetical Predator 3 one. I also believe there's a Aliens vs Predator sequel thread somewhere too. :wow:

I think the best route to go with the franchise would be to go into the past and try and flesh out more of the Predator mythology. A predator in feudal Japan or the Roman Empire would be a cool setting. The only problem is trying to tie another personal storyline to the typical Hunter vs Hunted plot that's dominated the 3 previous movies.

I never really got an answer to this before, so I ask again: Is the mysteriousness of the Predator a part of the appeal or has it actually hampered the franchise. Sure, there have been little additions to our overall knowledge of this alien, Predators added quite a bit, but still we know very little. How do y'all feel about this? Is the Predator still in his cool Wolverine "mad of mystery" phase, or do we need it to be better defined? Or would that ruin the mystique?

BTW, I think Predator would be great as a limited run series on HBO or FX. You could do stories in an anthology format with the Predator being the only common link. Set in differing time periods and places. I think the franchise actually lends itself to this kind of storytelling.

That would be awesome. Get Neill Marshall to direct the pilot, set in the Roman era. John Hyams to direct one set in the near future, with cybernetic soldiers. William Kaufman doing one with a SWAT team and gangsters. Scott Mann with a variety of oddball hitmen. Gareth Evans doing one set in Indonesia with Iko Uwais.

I love the Predator itself. A very cool and original creation. As for the films, the original is my favorite, and the best. I think it's because when I first saw the movie is was pretty creepy because the Predator was unknown and mysterious. It was the perfect action/horror/sci-fi movie. None of the other films has even come close. With that being said,Predator 2 is a very good and underrated sequel. Very brutal too. I thought Predators was ok and I never much cared for the AvP films. The first one was horrible, the second one slightly better. Either way,I'm always up for a Predator 3!

GET OUT OF MY MIND!!!!!!!!!!!!

But, yeah, that's pretty much my gist. 1hr run time. Get affordable veterans and talented newcomers behind the camera. I could imagine what the writing staff of a show like 24 or the like could do with the core concept. There could even be an overall story arc set up by each ep having a framing sequence. Maybe an archeologist looking into the history of theses creatures through accident or on purpose. Or maybe a govt agency sends agents out to learn about these aliens from those with historical knowledge.

Predator is the only one worth watching IMO. Always thought it was such a unique concept and creator design. Sadly there's never been a film since that has captured what made the first film so special.

There really is a magnitude of difference between the first film and every other film to feature the creature. Predator 2 comes closest but it still missed the mark somehow. It's a film I like a whole lot but it's not on the same level as the original.

Do fans want more of the same, or a story that reveals more of the creature? It's a balance that they better figure out if they want to continue making money off this franchise.

I honestly feel as if Predator is not a character meant to be a franchise. I understand why it's been turned into one, but to me anyway the first one stands head and shoulder above the rest. Probably because it was made at a time when franchises essentially didn't exist and sequels were never in the pipeline meaning all the had to worry about was the film at hand. Nowadays studios are thinking 2-3 films ahead which tends to dilute the film being worked on at the time.

Too true. I am not against sequels as a rule but so many high concept films work best as a one and done deal. MATRIX is a prime example. Could you tell more stories in that world and answer a ton of questions asked in the first film? Sure. But that ending is so perfect in it's own way that any follow up was bound to disappoint.

That being said, Predator has established itself firmly in franchise territory now. The powers that be should look to ways to really raise it's pop culture profile to a higher level than it is now. I think the first thing is to get better creative people behind the camera. I think Predators would have been a better film with Robert R. directing it. Just me.

Yes, I agree. It's a concept that was done right the first time. Nothing has matched it. A group of people become the hunted, picked off one at a time and there's a final showdown - where the creature dies and self destructs. You can try and differentiate that here and there, but at the core, that's what it is. The city was something different, but I greatly preferred the jungle.

With Prometheus being tied to Alien I wouldn't mind the same type of film for Predator, although more stuff like Predators would be fine with me too.

I am not too sure about revealing everything about the Predators, myself, but if it were to be revealed that they were the cat's paw of some other cosmic power, that could be interesting.

Prometheus wont get Predators for sure as Ridley is Interested in the Exploring only Alien Engineers .

The original Predator wasn't matched by any of its sequels and the newest Predators 2010 was a dumb attempt to mock the original .

Since the People who are making predators movies dont have or lack brain to make the movie entertaining and Exploring a wider predator world we wont get any good Predator movie :cmad:

PREDATORS was... sub optimal, shall we say, but... How was it a "dumb attempt to mock the original"?

Not trying to start anything, just curious how you came to this conclusion.

I enjoyed Predator 2 far more than the first.

I too liked Predator 2, don't know why people didn't like it as much. Obviously the first Predator will always be the best.

I liked all of them, i hope they make more. And would also love to see another AVP game

I think if Robert Rodriguez was behind the camera this would have done better. The concept was right but the execution not quite so. I still think people give it more hate than it deserves though.

I absolutely love the original. Predator 2 is fun, action packed, and very well done, but failed to capture the magic of the first. Predators I also found rather enjoyable, but it too failed to reach its full potential (BTW, technically Predators is Predator 3, just without the 3 in the title).

I too would truly love to see some more Predator films. They could take place in the distant past (a Predator is hunting vikings, forcing the king to send a team of his finest warriors to hunt down and destroy the beast, thus spawning the legend of Beowulf and Grendal), the present (a Predator is hunting US soldiers and Al-Quida terrorists in Aphganistan), or the distant future (a Predator is hunting human colonists who are trying to tame a wild and dangerous alien planet for mass human colonies).

While I don't disagree that maintaining the Predators' mystique is probably the best way to go, I do enjoy seeing little snippets of their culture where I can understand their mind set a little more (their code of honor shown in Part 2, the clan feuds shown in Predators, etc).

People keep asking for a movie set on the Predator's homeworld. I think this is a mistake. First, you lose absolutely ALL of the Predators' mystique by going this route. We don't get a little taste of their culture, we get the whole damn meal. Secondly, the only way that can work is if Earth were to launch a full scale invasion of the Predator homeworld. Then it won't be a "who's the predator, who's the prey" storyline. It's just simply a space war movie between humans & Predators. It's Star Wars, or Battle Beyond The Stars, or The Last Starfighter, but certainly NOT Predator.
