Rumor: Robert Rodriguez to Producer Predator Reboot?

5pn15k.jpg

Rumor has it that 20th Century Fox is developing a Predator reboot with Robert Rodriguez and Troublemaker Studios in the producers chair. This according to Bloody Disgusting’s reliable sources, who also claim that the idea is for the film follow a team of commandos who must face a mysterious race of vicious monsters. That’s right, not just one Predator, but a whole group. That change alone is sure to cause fanboys to throw a hissy.

I’d be more excited if Rodriguez was personally attached to direct, but his upcoming slate is pretty damn full already, and it seems very unlikely. Also, no writer has been hired to pen a screenplay yet, which means this project must be at the earliest stages of development.

I'm more open to these kinds of things than most but this is utterly stupid, the original still holds up so why not just make a Predator 3 ?

It'll be 80 minutes long and rated PG

...

It really never ends does it?

lol

See, I lol'd instead of crying.

Next we will get an Alien reboot. Then an Alien vs Predator reboot.

I don't think it'll be a reboot. Just a sequel that's similar to Predator 1.

It looks like it'll be a group of commandos versus a group of Predators. Sounds cool to me.

As long as they don't use any characters from the first two I'll be fine.

AVP reboot is needed. :oldrazz:

It's at least better than the original rumor that John Cena was going to play the son of Arnold's character from the first movie..

I'd actually like to see a Predator film set in the Civil War Era.

The idea of remaking the first film is ridiculous and shouldn't be considered. A sequel or even a prequel would be fine with me.

Unless they're using the old characters there's nothing to worry about! It's basically a sequel without "3" in the title.

A scene with Predators swimming or hiding out in the water would be great to see. They are already alien humanoid reptilian lizards, so giving them the ability to grow gills to breathe under water wouldn't be so far fetched.

I'm surprised that there isn't a Predator 3 yet. #2 was a bomb but that was years ago, and Predator 1 proves that if could be good if done right.

I'd prefer a 'Predator 3' with a grizzled Dutch swearing vengeance on the Predator Race...yeah...

If its different characters in a new location I'd like it.
Sounds like a last ditch effort from Tom Rothman to keep his job, and I smell fail.

I don't really care though, to be honest. I just really want an original piece of work to come out, preferably with Ridley Scott sat back in the director's chair. I want a Ridley Scott SF film, the likes of Blade Runner or Alien (even though the latter is designed more like a horror film with SF elements). I'm sure there's many talented writers out there making scripts, but I'm just starting to think that Hollywood has grown old and doesn't like to take chances anymore, preferring to sit on old franchises that are likely to make profit.

I don't care that remakes are being made though - I don't have to watch them... or I can watch them and then disregard them - but I want some original work dammit :(

The idea of this movie is LAME! P1 must be left un-touched, it was great then and it's still great now! Predator forever!!!

it's still a damn good movie. and my god, look how Robert Rodriquez has changed since he got with Rose, and the aftermath of Grind House.

With this being a reboot, I wonder how different the actual predator(s) will be?

Rodriguez wrote a script for Predator 3 called Predators in the 90's. Anyone notice the similarities? :cwink: I hope this is it and not a reboot/remake!

And what did ever happen to that "Predator 3" script, he was writing.

Oh, "Predators", yes we're the "Predator 3", it's call "Predators". It was back when I was doing "Desperado". I wrote "Desperado", it was going to get made like end of September, and then "Last Action Hero" bombed, so they said we're not making any movies for a year, like next year. So I was like what am I going to do until then? So I took a writing assignment, and one of the writing assignments that was out was "Predator" sequel.

So I said, yes I'll write a version of that. And it was just -- it was just crazy, it was huge, it was a big, big, big budget. Because I didn't have to direct it, I just had to write it. So I didn't really think about the budget, I was just like wrote this, wrote that. And it was really a cool script, it's floating around somewhere. But it's huge, and will never be made, the studio edited it and said there's no way we can make this, this would cost -- even at that time -- 150 million, and no women would ever go see this movie.

So even with "Aliens versus Predator", and you don't think there's any hope of the script getting made, it's just too big?

It's too big, and they've now combined alien versus "Predators". So they're putting two franchises together, which is probably a smarter way to go since both of those franchises are pretty much dying down.
It's the only way to really revitalize it at all. But yes, the -- I don't think that'd ever make it, it was just too expensive.

Shows what he knows. The AVPs have done nothing good for either franchise.
