Actor in Leading Role - Mickey Rourke

Actress in Leading Role - Kate Winslet

Actress in Supporting Role - Penelope Cruz

Animated Feature Film - Wall-E

Art Direction - The Dark Knight

Directing - Slumdog Millionaire

Foreign Language Film - Waltz with Bashir

Who the hell is this Black Dust creep who voted for everyone!?!

I think David Fincher has a good shot at winning Director this year over Boyle. Art Direction has a pretty good chance at going towards The Dark Knight, unless Benjamin Button tabs that. There doesn't seem to be a front runner for supporting Actress, so I think it'll either go to Marisa Tomei or Amy Adams. The others are obvious: Heath, Rourke, Wall-E.

I really wouldn't be surprised if Heath didn't win, given how they shut it out in other more important categories. I don't even why TDK was nominated for a make-up Oscar, Heaths make-up isn't complicated, and Two-face was done digitally. That Oscar belongs to Hellboy 2. Digital hybrid effects should not be counted in that category.

That logic goes out of the window instantly.

TDK was also ignored at the Globes and SAG and Heath won both of those.

Also none of the nominated actors were in a nominated film except for Brolin.

Actor in Leading Role - Sean Penn
Actor in Supporting Role - Heath Ledger
Actress in Leading Role - Meryl Streep
Actress in Supporting Role - Penelope Cruz
Animated Feature Film - Wall-E
Art Direction - The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Directing - Slumdog Millionaire
Foreign Language Film - Waltz with Bashir

Actor in Leading Role - Mickey Rourke-a combination of merit, his chances of being nominated again, and Penn's previous victory at the Oscars.

Actor in Supporting Role - Heath Ledger- again, a combination of merit, circumstances and Hoffman's victory over Ledger in 2005. Simply not enough of significant set pieces involving Brolin in Milk to merit a win.

Actress in Leading Role - Kate Winslet

Actress in Supporting Role - Marissa Tomei

Animated Feature Film - Wall-E

Art Direction - TDK

Directing - Danny Boyle

Foreign Language Film - Waltz with Bashir

Actor in Leading Role - Mickey Rourke, it would be nice to see him win it.

Actor in Supporting Role - Robert Downey Jr, just thought his role as a dude playin' the dude, disguised as another dude seems more challenging than playing Joker.

Actress in Leading Role - Kate Winslet, her 6th nom, its about time she wins one. and this probably her best chance to win it.

Actress in Supporting Role - Penelope Cruz

Animated Feature Film - Wall-E, this movie would be in my top 5 movie of 2008.

Art Direction - The Dark Knight

Directing - Slumdog Millionaire

Foreign Language Film - Departures

seems like Foreign Language Film - Waltz With Bashir got the most votes for Best Foreign film, anybody saw it, is it a good movie?

Actor in Leading Role - Mickey Rourke
Actor in Supporting Role - Heath Ledger
Actress in Leading Role - Kate Winslet
Actress in Supporting Role - Penelope Cruz
Animated Feature Film - Wall-E
Art Direction - Revolutionary Road
Directing - Slumdog Millionaire
Foreign Language Film - Departures

My picks to win are:

Foreign Language Film: Waltz with Bashir
Animated Film: Wall-E
Art Direction: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Actor Supporting Role: Heath Ledger
Actress Supporting Role: Penelope Cruz
Actor Leading Role: Mickey Rourke (though I think Sean Penn can win this...it's 51-49 to me).
Directing: Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire)

guys/gals

I see that the Foreign film Waltz With Bashir got alot of votes. Did you guys watch it? You sure it will win?

bump, vote and discuss why you chose these selections

Don't forget to watch the oscars tomorrow

Best Actor: Mickey Rourke
Best Actress: Kate Winslet
Best Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger
Best Supporting Actress: Marisa Tomei
Animated Feature Film: Wall-E
Directing: Danny Boyle, Slumdog Millionaire

Mickey is my pick, would cap off an amazing comeback. Winslet is due for a win. Heath's a no brainer. Tomei wins because there is still the feeling out there that she's a one hit wonder and a second win in a much better movie could end that.

My predictions...

Best actor - Mickey Rourke

Best actress - Kate Winslet (with a possible Hathaway dark horse victory)

Best supporting actor - Heath Ledger (though I think Hoffman or Downey have a shot at it and both are more deserving. Though had he not died, he wouldn't have a shot.)

Best supporting actress - Amy Adams (though if Hathaway wins best actress, Winslet will get it)

Best animated - WALL*E

Best director - Danny Boyle (And while I highly doubt it will happen...something tells me the Academy's hard on for Ron Howard may let him steal this one).

Having not seen or even heard of many of the films nominated (which is typical for the Oscars), I have just one prediction: People will be disappointed. (Again, typical for the Oscars.)

Best Director: Danny Boyle - "Slumdog Millionaire"

Best Actor: Mickey Rourke - "The Wrestler"

Best Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger - "The Dark Knight"

Best Actress: Kate Winslet - "The Reader"

Best Supporting Actress: Amy Adams - "Doubt"

Best Animated Film: "Wall-E"

Best Art Direction: Nathan Crowley and Peter Lando - "The Dark Knight"

Best Foreign Language Film: "Departures" (Japan)

EDIT: Double

Robert Downey Jr. was great and really had me laughing my ass off on several occasions. At times, I actually felt I was watching a black man and not RDJ. Great stuff! He's finally getting the respect he deserves.

Michael Shannon surprised me in Revolutionary Road. I had seen him in Pearl Harbor and thought of him as the comic relief. After watching this, I was wrong. He stole every scene he was in with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. I thought to myself that this guy should get nominated and sure enough when I got home later, I was right. Unfortunately, he won't be winning it, which is a shame.

I can't comment on Phillip Seymour Hoffman, but can anyone enlighten me on his performance?

I saved the best for last. Heath Ledger was unbelievable as The Joker, but I'm sure most of you already know that. I was completely against this guy from the day he was cast. I remember I wasn't the only one, but there were few who believed in him. I am proud to admit that I was wrong. After seeing the trailer, I was sold. When news broke out about his unfortunate death, I just couldn't believe it. Luckily for us, he was able to finish this and deliver one of the best performances of his career. He went out with a bang! It's such a shame he never got to see it. Dead or alive, Ledger deserves the Oscar. His role as The Joker and as Ennis Del Marr made me respect this guy even more. With that being said, Ledger gets my vote.
