Voltage Pictures has set the sci-fi thriller Prisoner Of War, which Joe Miale will direct with Alex Russell (Chronicle) in negotiations to star alongside Bérénice Marlohe (Skyfall). The film tells the story of humankind’s last stand against a cataclysmic alien invasion. Set in the war-ravaged African countryside, a U.S. soldier and a French foreign aid worker team up to survive the alien onslaught. http://www-deadline-com.vimg.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Cannes2014_badge__140417160328.pngAs they journey through the battlefield in search of refuge, their bond will be tested when the soldier discovers his true identity. The film will begin production in September on location in South Africa.
Automatik’s Brian Kavanaugh-Jones is producing alongside Rory Aitken and Ben Pugh, and Tea Shop & Film Company’s James Harris. Zev Foreman and Nicolas Chartier will also be producing for Voltage. Mark Lane will co-produce for Tea Shop & Film.
“Alien war machines have been stomping around in my head for far too long— I’m eager to set them loose on the big screen and have them take over the world,” Miale said.
“Joe’s vision for this movie embodies what SciFi storytelling is all about,” says Kavanaugh-Jones. “I couldn’t be more excited about working with Joe, Voltage, 42 and the rest of the team in bringing this incredible world to life.”
Chartier adds, “Prisoner of War is set in an imaginative and dangerous world, with a story that is both epic and intimate – much along the lines of District 9 or the first Terminator. We are absolutely thrilled to be working with Brian Kavanaugh-Jones as he has a great eye for discovering up-and-coming talent. We are firm believers in Joe Miale’s vision and look forward to establishing a new science-fiction franchise with him.”

‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’s Lee Pace Locks Up Sci-Fi Thriller ‘Prisoner Of War’

EXCLUSIVE: While he’s currently on screens everywhere as the face of intergalactic evil in Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy, Lee Pace has lined up sci-fi thriller Prisoner Of War as his next leading role. It’s a departure from his snarling Guardians villain Ronan the Accuser: Pace joins Skyfall‘s Bérénice Marlohe in the story of an American soldier and a French foreign aid worker who team up in Africa amid humankind’s last stand against a cataclysmic alien invasion.
Pace replaces Chronicle‘s Alex Russell in Prisoner, his first new project following a recent tear of huge blockbuster franchises. He next hits the big screen this December reprising the role of Elf King Thranduil in Peter Jackson’s series-concluding The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies after appearing in the two previous Hobbit flicks. Before that Pace popped up as a vampire in Summit’s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2. He also stars in AMC’s 1980s drama Halt and Catch Fire, which wrapped its freshman season Sunday, and has filmed a supporting role in Stephen Frears’ upcoming Lance Armstrong biopic for StudioCanal and Working Title.
Music video and TV vet Joe Miale is directing Prisoner Of War, which is produced by Automatik’s Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, 42’s Rory Aitken and Ben Pugh, and Tea Shop & Film Company’s James Harris. Zev Foreman and Nicolas Chartier also are producing for Voltage. Mark Lane is co-producing for Tea Shop & Film. Filming is set to start in September on location in South Africa. Pace is repped by CAA and Peikoff Mahan
