This week after 8 months of looking, I finally got a new job.

I'm a "promotional advertising representative", which is really a bull**** way of saying door-to-door salesman.

Now my problem is we pretty much have to go door-to-door in the roughest ghettos in Chicago for eight hours. It's like we're bothering these people, and I have to go by myself for the first time on Wednesday.

Should I worry about what might happen or am I just overreacting?

You must really be desperate for work, dude. Good luck to you.

I didn't actually find out this was what I had to do until after they hired me. They just told me I was working in advertising at first.

Everyone does it at the job, yet they think I'm being negative because I'm not trying to get shot.

Sounds like bait and switch to me, which isn't uncommon with companies that do this sort of sales. Are you strictly on commission? If so, get out of there and keep looking for something else. This gig won't do jack for your resume' and will pretty much give you flattened arches and not much else for your troubles. Even more so if it's selling something potentially harmful to a particular demographic like tobacco products or something of that nature. From what very little you've shared, it really sounds to me like they're specifically targeting lower-income black households which just strikes me as sleazy in the first place.

Use your Pyro and Chamber mutant powers to protect you.
But use them carefully, you don't want to start mutant hysteria, do you?

have to agree with jag, get out of there, if your that bad for work, try getting a job in a shop or something at least that way your with a set location and its easier to get a job while your in one

We're actually selling DirecTV. And yeah, it's pretty much commission. We get $70 for every yes, and you have to get at least 3 for the day. But after seeing yesterday, it's hard; especially when most of the people who said yes didn't have good credit and the orders couldn't go through.

Dude I have been down this road many times....don't walk run as fast as you can....I almost got shot at for door to door selling. People don't like to be bother...ask your self this question....would you open your door and waste your time with a door saleman....it not the 50's anymore.

What I thought was dumb is the fact that it seems like everyone there was brainwashed. They kept saying "think positive, think positive", well that's not easy when people are suspicious of you (especially people from the hood) and none of them well admit to the fact that they're door-to-door salesmen as if it's taboo to say it.

Yeah, I think I should quit and do something else. I really need a job but I'm not willing to get killed for one. Damn Victory Promotions.

i think the most important thing to remember is that people wont kill a ******ed person, they might try and rob you, just don't take cash with you.
but as a ******ed person? they'll actually feel sorry for you. you might even get MORE sales that way!
so just practice at home, and make it a habbit to drool when you try and sell them something.
